Weather and crowds at Aspen Snowmass in early March?

Yes tseeb, I read all comments in your thread. Very interesting. In addition to Vail/Beaver Creek I have also multiple trips to Utah areas, and went to Steamboat once. Because of this, I can better appreciate comments. As an eastern skier, my criteria for what is flat and steep are somewhat...

Weather and crowds at Aspen Snowmass in early March?

Thanks tseeb for the comments and links, which I read in full. I liked to read comments about Snowmass vs Vail, as I went to Vail 3 years ago and can relate.

Weather and crowds at Aspen Snowmass in early March?

Weather and crowds at Aspen Snowmass in early March? I' m looking into spending a week in Snowmass Village next March 3 to 10. I wonder if this is loo late for true winter conditions. As of now, I think I will be skiing mostly Snowmass, with a day each at Aspen and Highlands. Aspen is very...

Report from Steamboat - Early February 2013

I agree the trees are overrated, like they are most everywhere else. There is a difference between a nice summer-maintained glade and letting people make their own tracks in the woods. The latter costs nothing to the ski area, but is only worth it when there is a lot of snow. There a some...

Report from Steamboat - Early February 2013

I am back from Steamboat (Feb 2 to 9). A very good trip. Five days of sun and one day of light snow/clouds/fog which made us quit at noon as we couldn't see anything. No major snowfall during our stay. The mountain has met my expectations and is even bigger than I thought. Snowbase was about 57...

Report from Steamboat - Early February 2013

Thanks Tony. Is this a regular pattern? I have only one chance a year to go out West for skiing.

Report from Steamboat - Early February 2013

Following up on that, I booked our trip to Steamboat on January 2. Since then, there had been no significant snow. Only a couple inches here and there. I was discouraged to see the snow report show a laughable 0.25 and 0.50 inch of new snow on some days. Seriously? The resort was as desperate as...

Report from Steamboat - Early February 2013

Thanks to you both for your replies. They make me feel confident enough to book my trip. I know about the not-that-steepness, thanks to Google Maps. The attraction is a new destination for me and my wife, with long fall-line runs, glades skiing, and no car needed to go around a town that seems...

Report from Steamboat - Early February 2013

Edit: I have changed the thread title and added a post at the end to report on our trip to Steamboat during the first week of February ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi, has anyone here been skiing at Steamboat Co very recently? I have to decide...

A week in Sun Peaks BC - online video

It was my second trip to Sun Peaks. Back in Feb. 2005, we had marginal snow conditions but 100% sun. This year, lots of clouds and fog at mid-mountain, but good snow. Locals are blaming the frequent clouds this year on an unusually warm winter. It's a great place to go for a week, but after...

A week in Sun Peaks BC - online video

Here is a video of the week i spent skiing in Sun peaks BC with my better half (in blue) in early February. Mild temperatures with 1.5 days of sunny skies out of 6 days. The rest was clouds and partial fog. Nice snow conditions. Sure beats workin' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AybLVqmY2M

Don't laugh...Worrying about prolonged stay at 8000+ ft.

Thanks for the suggestions of alternative destinations. I have three trips to Utah on record, and each time I stayed in SLC. The village base at Silverstar, where I finally decided to go, is at 1600M or about 5300 ft.

Don't laugh...Worrying about prolonged stay at 8000+ ft.

Thanks for all the replies. I am keeping everything for future reference, as there is a change of plans for this season. After reading about this on my own, I have found something that is not encouraging in my particular case. I am highly myopic (I wear -11.50 D contacts for skiing) and because...

Don't laugh...Worrying about prolonged stay at 8000+ ft.

I see that some people are very much sensitive to altitude. Banff is only at 4800 ft. I have stayed there for 10 days without any problem. Basically, for me and my wife, 8000 ft is a bit of a crapshoot. Does the fact that I can day-ski at Alta/Snowbird (10000-11000 ft) without problem...
