I have to wonder if that is relatively new phenomenon. I certainly don't recall seeing that anywhere previously even when I lived in California. I do know that mice and rats are far more likely to eat car wiring in the past 15-20 years since they switched over to Soy based insulation coverings...

    With $100k annual travel budget...

I've never ridden much back east. While I know there is some world class back east I'm curious where that description and that level meets at your locale. Shawgunks? As we Americans LOL while crying in our beers at the same time.

    ski-air travel stories

Pics or it didn't happen :troll: I refuse to fly Spirit. Very occasional on Frontier but circumstances have to be just right. Ditto for me. I'm interested for to-Europe, but not back for example (and only at the right 'price'). Though I sleep a fair bit both ways over the Pacific pond...

    ski-air travel stories

The various 'classes' of service have been interesting to watch over the past ~25 years that I've been travelling a ton. (On US carriers) what used to be first class is now the equivalent of business class level of service, while the brand new premium economy service for international is rapidly...

Visalia – Sequoia National Park, June 2-3, 2025

I was there one time in my life; back in ~1978 at about age 9. Still very distinctly remember the General Sherman tree. That was part of a 2+ week trip with and visiting family in Cali way back then. One of only 2 trips of that length my father ever took when I was growing up. Even as a retired...

    Cross Country Drive May-June 2025

Definitely very old for the west. Had a far more interesting time getting dinner at the Springhouse Tavern located in the basement of the Dobbins House Tavern in Gettysburg last summer. Has not always been a restaurant, but in what was originally a home built by the first reverend in town back...

    ski-air travel stories

Can you imagine flying Spirit or Frontier and seeing someone in a suit and tie? That would shock everyone in the area in today's world! Can't recall the last time for a tie but do occasionally see business people with sport coats and such on the major airlines.

    2024-25 Season Recap

I had a surprisingly low ski day count this year. Spring was a bit odd for me. More non-ski stuff going on than I had expected, Jr not in hardcore race mode/program, lots of days actually too cold to trust that things would soften up enough, etc... Lots of excuses I guess. 41 total days was all...

    Cross Country Drive May-June 2025

Never made it there. The one close to me closed almost 20 years ago. I have been to the oldest steak house in Denver area: Buckhorn Exchange. No tie cutting there though. Definitely old and Lots of dead animals on the walls everywhere.

I was going to say I thought that they monitored the CO2 levels in that area pretty consistently in modern times? Both for keeping people out when needed and for scientific study.

    Nordic skiing in SoCal

Agreed. Though a couple % of the time Archive.is gets stymied by the paywall itself and doesn't pull in the full article (in my experience over the past ~3-5 years or however long I've been using it). But in general a great tool.

Epic Pass - Vail now Controls(?) Most of Austria

Again my info is from early days of Ikon. It may have changed by now. I don't think Ikon knew what the average skier days were going be across such a big new group of non-local/historical skiers. So the contract for partners was $x/day paid out as skier days happened, with Alterra holding onto a...

Epic Pass - Vail now Controls(?) Most of Austria

That would be a shockingly high per visit price IMO. Telluride Epic visit #'s might be small enough to actually pay that, but I can't begin to fathom that that many skiers are buying Epic due to Telluride. Ikon per day to partners is much much below that number. I recall a discussion abut...

I feel like you need to be especially confident in the avi conditions for that line. Unlikely any chance of survival if an avi drains you directly into the lake.

Was there sections of deep snow on Tioga? Didn't look that way from your pics. Trail Ridge road in RMNP over my way has yet to open for the season. It's been a fairly chilly and snowy (in the mountains) spring including today still.
