    Mont Tremblant 2025-26 Season

Oh I'm not saying the risk is any different at all in the real world. However every single lawyer (and state law) in the US will fight you to the death that those electric poles are super dangerous manmade interferences vs the natural risks of the mountain. And no I am not kidding. Lawyers in...

    Mont Tremblant 2025-26 Season

US areas tend to either have buried power lines or they run power up the chair lift line right next to the comm lines in my experience. Probably has to do with not wanting more poles on the hill to cover with pads, adjust pads, etc... for liability insurance. Seems crazy to me that LL didn't...

    Greek Peak, NY: 01/08/26

The 3 glades worth the effort at GP IMHO are the 3 I've numbered below; though two of them are still not in-bounds. For #1 you have to both know where you are going and need to stage a car on the road (unless you like walking - a lot). #2 was always called Rough Rider Glade by the locals until...

Western U.S. Road Trip From A Swiss POV

Absolutely and 100% makes sense for a regional local who was already passing through to have a fun 'local' day. But if he is skipping out on VT, NH, etc... to ski Greek Peak? That would make no sense; this isn't the alps with 'small' local areas with surprisingly big terrain and lots of vert.

Western U.S. Road Trip From A Swiss POV

Given his choices, it feels like a combo of wanting to see some vistas and ignore any reality on the ground as to where the snow is. He's pretty hard set on which ski area on what day for the most part even if they literally have no snow. Very inflexible approach to any 2 month road trip IMO...

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

No snowmaking system in Utah or Colorado has accomplished all that much this particular year. But it was and is extremely forecastable that that section of new terrain was both 100% snowmaking dependant and that that area/altitude has warm temps in the early season on a regular basis. Not a good...

    Beer thread

I feel like Dale's is best known for its basic Dale's Pale Ale vs this light lager. But that is probably more than a buck a can though... (Some brewed only 20min from my house. They have a couple other brewery locations too).

    Monitoring Cardiac Health

No idea. There has been no discussion with me about the specific proteins or etc... that may have been the culprit. Simply that it was soft/non-calcified plaques that caused it.

    Northern VT: what a start

I'm going to throw heavy lake effect areas in there as well. Less frequent occurrences than prob northern VT but it does happen sometimes (I experienced it a few times during my Eastern years).

    Greek Peak, NY: 01/08/26

I had to switch from phone to computer to see this awesome TR. The east side is certainly perfect for low angle groomers. Also love that the Electra is back to being a thing after decades of being off limits. I never understood the triple chair loading with cattle pens and lights, etc...

    Eldora, CO 2025-26

Just to point out just how bad it is this season, below is a map showing the open terrain at Eldora as of today Jan 9th. This is usually about where the map is for open terrain by about Thanksgiving to early December-ish in a more typical year. I'm sue they've been blowing snow the past couple...

Tour of Vail Tahoe resorts January 5-7, 2026

That many visits apparently equals a ~$120M price tag for Eldora.... Vail has really, really fallen behind in doing any lift improvements. They have an enormous fleet of lifts and yet only install like 3-4 new or replacement lifts per year. That is unsustainable long term. I can only guess that...

    Eldora, CO 2025-26

I currently have no idea on this, but I know I will hear from many up there about the change when it gets close to happening and they spell out the official town benefits for them (which has not happened yet). Most likely.

    Eldora, CO 2025-26

Now for the town to figure out how to market and issue bonds, get a special use permit from the USFS, beg Ikon to keep the current deal going, figure out how to transition employees en-mass to being town EE's (total town population is only ~1,500 so current number of town EE's is TINY), etc...

    More Telluride Mismanagement

Not surprised at the fallout. And also not surprised that this seems that it will go on longer than most strikes: https://www.denverpost.com/2026/01/08/telluride-ski-patrol-strike-protest/
