Long term powder destinations - Targhee vs. Wolf Creek

I wasn't really clear that I was talking about spending eternity, or at least all winter in one spot. Also that I've spent time in Targhee enough to move it to the top of my list. I haven't been to WC though, and thought it sounded similar so had me wondering. Only real downside was the fog...

Long term powder destinations - Targhee vs. Wolf Creek

Assume a brother has decided that a more snow, lower crowds, non-extreme, place like Grand Targhee is just perfect... except for the fact that he is well aware that "Grand Fogee" has earned it's nickname. So on paper, it would seem to the uneducated that Wolf Creek CO is of similar stature as...

Where to spend next winter on a budget?

Speaking of budgets, I just found out that Vail is like $25/day to park! Bah! I guess there's free shuttle parking in town, but I get the impression those spots are pretty limited. Breck is $5-$10. Tony, your charts and tables are great. Those and the skier visits stats keep pointing me...

Where to spend next winter on a budget?

Have any of you spent enough time at those Colorado places (Vail, Breck) as well as VT (Stowe, Killington) to comment on how the definition of "crowded" may vary between the two areas? I mean Breckinridge could never feel as crowded as Killington, could it? For comparison, I'd say snowbird...

Where to spend next winter on a budget?

Yeah, driving's another big cost, but I still have a way to go before I'm completely free. So I think it's just that window for now.

Where to spend next winter on a budget?

It's interesting you mention the resorts with shared relationships like that. Do you know of any in UT that have reciprocal benefits with any VT or NE resorts? Maybe I can help cover the early/late season at home.

Where to spend next winter on a budget?

This is probably the best option for fun, but I think the ticket and travel costs would end up high. Figure about 60 days @50$ (probably higher) = $3k. Plus it would end up with 1hr vs. 1/2hr for most places. Although maybe plopping down in the Layton area and doing the full pass at snowbasin...

Where to spend next winter on a budget?

I'm planning on heading out after xmas and staying through the end of March. So the shoulder season's aren't too important. I hadn't given Bend much thought, but checking out Bachelor, it looks like a good possibility. Like a giant Sugarloaf. I don't mind not having fairy tale light powder...

Where to spend next winter on a budget?

Just looking for any ideas for where to spend a few months next winter.... you all seem to have been around a bit and may have some good ideas or things to consider that I haven't yet. I favor low crowds and longer lasting powder over very advanced terrain or even total snowfalls. (ie...

Brundage snow - UT? Tahoe? VT?

I appreciate all the positive feedback. It's kind of what I was hoping to hear. I have to agree with Tony - that's my other big worry about getting bored with one place. I actually am the type to prefer Powder Mountain to Snowbird - and Ogden is actually higher on my list than SLC for exactly...

Brundage snow - UT? Tahoe? VT?

 indeed! The poor kittens! I read every brundage forum hit, and even stumbled into Tony's @bestnow site... no idea how I missed that great article. It's got some really interesting info and perspective. The one thing it doesn't allude to is the typical water content type statistics...

Brundage snow - UT? Tahoe? VT?

I've been looking into long term retirement locations when the day finally comes to move out west, and Brundage has recently peaked my interest. The crowds, terrain, cost, and year round living line up well with what I'm looking for. There's one thing I wanted to ask some of you travelers and...

    Eastern Closing dates 2007-08

Looks like Sunday River is undercutting Mt. Washington as a frugal alternative. Sunday! Sunday! (monster truck voice) Sunday River's got free skiing - last day!

    Sugarbush 4/17

Sugarbush is holding up really well. Great spring day today. Ditched work early and did 12:00-4:00. 70's and full sun. A few people, but would have been more fun with a few more. Lift serving all of the south side, with great coverage with a few exceptions. I'm bad with trail names... wide...
