I wax depending on how much I ride. Usually after every third or fourth day. I like to do the edges then as well. Always a 2 degree bevel and ONLY wax with bluebird.
My advise is don't head out there unless you have someone that knows where they are going (Or follow someone up the boot pack). Use the search button on this site and put in hourglass, hellbrook etc.... and you will find some pretty usefull info. The rest is local knowledge and experience.

I just did the thunderbolt last winter and it was great. Perfect for skis or snowboard. The hike up is steep and you may need to traverse a bit and do a little bushwacking. The trail head is also not marked well, it's acrost a field at the end of a dead end road. But it is worth the hike.
