    Open Snow Subscription Change 2025

I have the basic plan, and like some others, got it on a promotion. I would never renew at the price point its at now, however as a benefit for my other weather forecasting gig for McCall, I get it for free (not through Opensnow). fwiw... it's nice to see someone at Opensnow finally admit that...

Where are you going this season (25/26)?

Texans I've experienced when living in CO are Nice enough people (I still have several Pagosa friends) they just clutter up the ski areas (and generally don't know how to ski) and drive like idiots. Of course, idiot drivers are everywhere. I think Crested Butte is another popular one for Texans.

Where are you going this season (25/26)?

The Pitcher's are well know in Pagosa, and from my experience, not well liked as owners of Wolf. Wolf Creek Supersaver Season Pass (which inlcudes 44 blackout days)! $815 EARLY PRICE Unrestricted Pass: $1102 Early Bird Price In comparison, for early season price, I paid $399 @ Tamarack...

Where are you going this season (25/26)?

Skip Wolf Creek. They're greedy bastards, and the "resort" sucks. Their prices have skyrocketed in the last few years, and some people I know can't even get a season pass anymore... or if they do, it's blacked out half the season. (p.s. I lived there for 3 yrs). The only good thing going for...

Can Snowmaking Compensate for Climate Change?

I had one of those as well, but the emblem on mine was red and blue, I think.I don't remember when I bought mine, but I wanna say 2004-2008 ish.

Can Snowmaking Compensate for Climate Change?

Bogus Basin apparently tested it out this summer, and it looks like it worked. I could easily see this becoming common place in the future. https://bogusbasin.org/about-bogus/culture/experimenting-with-snow-storage-snow-secure-at-bogus-basin/

Robert Redford: His Beloved Utah Canyon (Sundance), and Downhill Racer

Went to Sundance only once to ride about 15 yrs ago mid-winter (weird.... fluffy powder snow on top, rain/sloppy on bottom half), but the scenery was spectacular, particularly at that little cabin on the summit. One thing I particulary remember was a portapotty in the parking lot has a space...

Fire threatens Tamarack, ID again ...

Not a lot of details, but the plan is to clear out all the burned trees and open that terrain. Previously, that area that was burned was heavily forested, and not really skiable, so definely a silver lining...

Where are you going this season (25/26)?

I'd love to go to Japan, for the pow and also the culture/food! The travel time is what keeps me from pulling the trigger. I am not a good air traveler, in particular. I do not take for granted I live near some great, relatively low key mountains! Although, I do get picky about snow...

I always find it interesting to see what people's plans are for the upcoming winter. Here are mine... Feel free to share yours! Ride locally (weekdays) as usual at Brundage Mtn and Tamarack, ID. Might finally go to Little Ski Hill in McCall as they are now on the Indy Pass. Mid February trip...

Fire threatens Tamarack, ID again ...

The photo below was taken Friday AM, and posted by Tamarack. So yes, they have been using their limited snowmaking guns to put some moisture in the air. I believe most of their snowmaking in toward the bottom 1/3 of the mountain, although it does go up to the mid-mtn on the run underneath the...

Fire threatens Tamarack, ID again ...

From the latest fire update: "There were several long-range spot fires found within the ski runs of Tamarack Resort, but all were suppressed without further spread" The perimeter of the fires does show it encroaching up to the Upper Bliss Trail, but staying just south of it. For all practical...

Fire threatens Tamarack, ID again ...

FWIW, the smoke you're getting is entirely from Canada, not the western US. The same goes for last year. The fire looks slightly better this evening, but it has burned over 1600 acres today. I have been kinda busy today, so I haven't heard any details on if it's entered the Tamarack area. The...

Fire threatens Tamarack, ID again ...

For the 3rd time since I've lived here, a fire is threatening the resort. A lone thunderstorm started multiple fires just south of the resort last night (less than 1 mile from the top of summit chair). Winds are strong today, up to 30 mph. It's not looking good. It's been a very light fire...
