    The Hockey Hijack

Pffft, whatev. I can say that easy enough because I didn't get into hockey until about 96. Avalanche did at least one great thing and that was putting Bourque in a position to hoist the cup! I remember routing for them that year or two he played for Colorado. :stir:

Electronic Doohickies and Gizmos While Skiing

And don't forget that having a bluetooth device means you are permanently plugged in. Heck, I have a Bluetooth device for hands free in the car. But I probably only use 25 minutes per month on my plan.

    Midwinter thaw

I'd be more interested in hearing from MadPatSki about how far into Canada the thaw extends. With the thaw having the potential to reach up to 50 at MRG this week  I think it is safe to assume no where in New England will be safe. Considering next weekend is a holiday weekend, I might be...

    K-Mart/Pico Feb 2&3

I did a Thursday--day after the powder day--at Pico earlier this season. They also were late opening the summit lift (though only 1:15 late, sounds like your wait was longer). A disturbing trend to notice on powder days. My observation was that Pico gets tracked out quick. A lot of Killington...

    Attracting the non-skier

Zip Lines, Canopy Tours, and Mountain Coasters all seem to be popular new uses for mountains during the non-skiing season in New England. Seems like at least half a dozen of any of the above are installed every summer. Though some Mountain Coasters have simply replaced existing alpine slides...

    Gosh Darn It!!!

Wow. Base building event following by pow on Friday for the mountains with rain and freezing rain making things a complete mess down in metro. Perfect storm if you ask me. I am SO pumped up for this coming weekend. Its going to be epic for sure.

    george pow farming 1/17/11

Nice, Rog! I figured you'd be working all the new snow over quite well. Its been a great January after a lean start over there. Not when earning turns. I toured on the 17th (lower elevation) and shed the shell after a few minutes and skinned and skied with just a light weight base...

ANd the hits just keep on comin!

Climate change is really the preferred wording here. Global warming implies man made. Climate change is more a catch all of "hey, we don't know what is causing it but the data says its getting warmer in most places." For the record, I am the FIRST person to say any one that cites a one day...

How did the EC mountains hold up after this last rain?

That is one way to do it. You could also do a rating system relative to a certain region with differing objective standards for differing regions. It all depends who your target for the statistic is. If your target audience is a globe trotting destination skier that skis many different regions...

How did the EC mountains hold up after this last rain?

Git yer Utah talk outta the EC thread! =; I can't imagine the northeast being 100% accessible at most ski areas in December. Some areas it certainly can happen but as a region, I can't imagine it has eve happened.

How did the EC mountains hold up after this last rain?

I don't know Tony's system, but shouldn't letter grading be done relative to time of year (i.e. relative to average for that time of year)? To say that December should never get an A rating because mountains are not 100% open and off piste and sidecountry options are not safe yet is severely...

How did the EC mountains hold up after this last rain?

    \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ =D> 4 for 4 on December powder days.

How did the EC mountains hold up after this last rain?

You also have to factor in that it is still December. Trail counts will never be much higher than 80% in December. I certainly don't remember seeing any ski area with glades or steep/rocky terrain at 100% in December during my time. I think you'll see a bump in counts for the weekend as the vast...

How did the EC mountains hold up after this last rain?

Streak = Over Time to update your weekly New England conditions status report for this weekend. Looks like a solid A- from my perspective. Third week of powder in a row, bring it. =;

How did the EC mountains hold up after this last rain?

Another ski one weekend day ski week for me, another powder day. Just want to keep things real here... that is two Saturday powder days in a row. Not exactly cherry picking. I ski about 50 days a season and if I am lucky, 10 of them are mid-week and maybe 8 of them are mid-week powder. I get...

How did the EC mountains hold up after this last rain?

That is odd. I have had two good powder days during the past week. And you should really check out famousinternetskiers.com.... they had a day for the record books. I mean, I think even most western skiers will be drooling about this: http://www.famousinternetskiers.com/tri ... -on-earth/ The...

    Shopping for Alpine Touring Gear

Depends what your needs are and intended use. I recently did a gear weight in of all my gear. I found my heaviest setup (alpine boots and bindings with fat skis) was 31 pounds (give or take) and my lightest weight setup (Radiums, Dynafits, Watea 94) was 21 pounds (give or take). Two pounds is...

    Serious Vert

Vertical is irrelevant. Setting the 'serious' number at 2k is crazy out east. By this standard, places like Jay and Waterville both have serious vert, as does Sunday River (no sustained). Many mountains it takes multiple lifts to get the full vert and often includes a run out. Whatev. There are...

    East Coast skis to demo

Those sheets of titanal really up the poundage. I don't know the weight of the Mantras off hand, but just on the subject of Volkls, the heaviest ski in my quiver is a Volkl Six Star at 175cm (69 waist I think?) which weighs almost the same as my fattest and longest ski, a Fischer Atua at 186cm...
