Whiteface 4/6 - another spectacular day

If it wasn't for the B's regular season record against the Habs this year, this thread could get ugly. But given the regular season, I am not even going to bother.

Where to Live in Upper New England

:D S'all good rog. Don't hold back on us, you never have before  Seriously though, I can access all that for 1-1.5 hours drive. No doubt the MWV has tremendous outdoor recreational opportunities. I would rather drive there when I want to access it from nearby than live there. Tourist...

    Mad River Glen, VT: 04/05/08

Aerial maneuvers on Liftline had me coming back to Tower 10 all day. Felt really good up there today and nailed a few sequences of drops. Always love skiing Mad River for its terrain features that are lacking at other areas. Here are some shots including a few on the "out takes" tip. ;)...

    Mad River Glen, VT: 04/05/08

This was definitely a morning to sleep in (oops) as thing were quite firm out of the starting gate. But man, did things get really good later in the day. Really really good. Got to the mountain at 9:15am and headed up the Single feeling a little chill in the air and could barely see two chairs...

The STEEP is out on DVD, website from producers here!

Heh! That is very true. And I should have finished my post with the understanding that I take unnecessary risk as a skier myself, it is just not what I would consider excessive but that is a pretty relative term! I am quite happy with my nut job status as an October-July turn earner and tree skier.

The future of glade skiing in NYS

On the flip side, tight tree skiing lines are toast after one group goes through and the fourth person of that group probably isn't the happiest about the line, that is for sure. I actually enjoy open spaces over tight lines. I don't find that the spacing of the line is indicative of amount of...

Ehm? Oh, that was tree skiing Tony posted a link to? :?: Oh, okay ;) :P

The STEEP is out on DVD, website from producers here!

I think you really need to finish the quote to not lose the context I placed my words within. Out of the second half's "ski porn feature," as I call it, Coombs was pretty much the only skier that had been placed in an historical context in the previous half of the film. I think this is a big...

The STEEP is out on DVD, website from producers here!

Semi-selective is putting it mildly. The bonus features on the end shows the director answering Q&A addresses the reason why there was no footage of Asia extreme skiing and the director indicated that was a different history and story than what they set out to tell. Fair enough. But I could have...

The future of glade skiing in NYS

I think you are the one that should give us a break. Disney-esque? Tree skiing in the east is almost by its very definition un-natural. There are very few areas in the Northeast that have naturally spaced trees that allow for natural skiing turns and what I would consider really good skiing...

Where to Live in Upper New England

That is funny because I think Concord is crowded as heck when I drive down there and a lot of MA folks reservations about moving to NH is poor school quality compared to MA (obviously, the bigger cities and regional districts in NH have been quality schools, but overall... well, education is...

The future of glade skiing in NYS

My experience is tree wells are more annoying than dangerous around here. There are not a lot of locations in New England where you are skiing over and around half or fully buried conifers. One or tree wells have tried to eat me but it usually only involves sinking down to your knee and having a...

Where to Live in Upper New England

NH is better for living but VT is better for skiing. At least that is the conclusion I have come to. Though NH has better late season backcountry options and VT does not have much for the above tree line mountaineering qualities that the Presidentials bring (Mansfield excepting, which just as...

The future of glade skiing in NYS

Bingo. If insurance companies are forcing ski area's hands regarding not allowing tree skiing, they should look at the death rates. I can not recall the last New England skiing death that involved glade skiing but I can recall almost double digits this year from groomed trails. Surely death...

Where to Live in Upper New England

Funny you think NH is completely different politically than VT considering its politics are being taken over by MA transplants moving into southern NH. Without getting too political and just keeping to the facts, NH recently elected two democratic congressmen and a democratic governor after...

Where to Live in Upper New England

LOL. When you have lived in the NEK for a while... urban was perhaps the wrong word... the bigger VT cities would probably be the better choice of words. Even Burlington is hardly urban compared to metro areas.

Where to Live in Upper New England

I continue to believe that Waterbury is probably one of the best places to live in VT for a skier. It is only a short drive to VT's more urban areas excepting Rutland, Brattleboro, and Bennington. And Waterbury has the most options for picking the best ski days at the best mountains with all of...

Where to Live in Upper New England

J- Regarding the NEK, it was a huge lifestyle issue. The NEK is an interesting place culturally and points towards a lot of the issues that are happening in less urban areas. Kids grow up, turn 18, and then they decide whether they are going to go to college and move to the city or get a local...

The MRG Vouchers were the combination of a Mad Card and a work day. I only have one Stowe voucher for the season and it was a gift.

Where to Live in Upper New England

Tony, I really don't think you get it. There is more to life than skiing and I will never live in the NEK again. As far as skiing, definitely a worse location as I am further from every single mountain I used to ski (even Cannon is further by a few minutes), that is certainly true. But "In...
