    Adirondack Ski Chair

I was thinking the ski feet would let you move it around the yard conveniently, too. Maybe Sharon can give it a spin behind the ski boat the next time she's up for a non-green off-season activity! Is that a Labatt in your hand?

The Gunks, New Paltz , NY

You guys are making me all misty-eyed. Lovely pics, thanks so much. I never climbed the 'Gunks, just hiked around a little, but I grew up outside of Poughkeepsie and went to Storm King School near Newburg. We climbed Storm King Mountain's faces or bouldered every day after school, as part of...

    Green Recreation

Is that on Cayuga lake? Looking good on that board! That's on my list for this year (or next); learn to windsurf so I can enjoy my Lake Ontario weekends without burning fuel. I got rid of the big boat two years ago, and I couldn't be happier. Tom

Love those marketing words. Very effective. Oops - I meant impactful. Tom

    Glazed and confuzed: the aftermath

Wonderful photos, thanks! We didn't have the ice in Monroe County. There must have been some, as it rained on Saturday, but we had enough snow for some nice XC at Mendon Ponds. Tom

    Airline Ski Packing Advice?

Ahhh, travel in the post-9/11 era. Security opens bags routinely. In my home airport (Rochester, NY), they'll open them up right there on the floor in front of everyone. Better pack clean underwear.

    Airline Ski Packing Advice?

Q, Be very careful about reading your airline's policies regarding sports equipment. Last year, I traveled to South Lake Tahoe, and if memory serves, I was allowed ONE pair of skis per person without incurring the expense of overweight baggage. Airlines differ as to whether your boots and...

    Self Waxing

Yes, indeed. I couldn't remember the name yesterday, but I thought 'Racing' was in there somewhere. I stopped there one day two years ago, in the spring on the way home from Killington, but they were closed at the time. Tognar has the same Skivisions tool. I treated myself to one last year...

I'll second that motion, mtngirl. YAY! What a change from last year (so far).

    Self Waxing

Mike, One name. Tognar. They have a great website, loads of free advice and how-tos, and decent prices. (There are other well-respected establishments as well.) I do all my own waxing, and I do some edge maintenance as well. I generally get one professional tuning (with edge sharpening)...

    Real jobs are a drag...

I hate to whine excessively, but you are in Vt, at least. I'm stuck here in Western NY. The local hill wants $51 for 8 hours on two trails. And as Sharon writes, the season is young yet. On the other hand, Holiday Valley opens tomorrow for $4. That's right, four simoleans! But, they don't...

    Ski Pants?

Last year, I found a pair of Obermeyer pants, and was relieved to see that they offer both short and long versions in all of their waist sizes. I'm a little shorter than average, myself.

    Where in the west

Harvey, It's interesting how much we have in common. I started XC in high school, on the 'racing' team. I generally finished in the middle of the pack, but enjoyed it immensely. My first trip to a downhill resort was backpacking through Smuggler's Notch in 1975, and hiking down one of the...

    Where in the west

Wow. Harvey, love the description of your camp. Sell/rent/lease it to me sometime! Seriously, do you XC ski too? Garnet Hill is wonderful, and as I've been to Gore only four times, I'm always looking for a chance to get up there. 5 hours or so for me, driving from Rochester. Tom
