Ascutney 12-18 - scratchy but so empty

Just realized I put the wrong date on this. It was actually Monday (12/17) just in case anybody was wondering about me reporting all that untracked two days after a storm - now that would be something...

Ascutney 12-18 - scratchy but so empty

Took a day off work to take advantage of the new snow. Eventually settled on Ascutney because I haven’t skied there before and to try and find some good snow after the storm, far enough north to avoid any crust but within reach for a day-trip from Boston. With the $45 lift ticket, Ascutney...

Ascutney - any reports this season?

I think Smuggs would definitely be a good call, but unfortunately this is a day-trip from Boston, so it'll need to be a bit closer to home.

Ascutney - any reports this season?

That's my concern, that if they haven't invested in grooming before the storm, then an otherwise great day with some good new snow can be spoilt. I don't get to ski enough days to just give it a try and hope for the best. We took the family to try Ragged Mountain for a day last season -...

Ascutney - any reports this season?

Thinking of using my free Warren Miller ticket to Ascutney on Monday, taking a day off work to catch the storm. Hopefully a relatively easy day-trip from Boston - highway most of the way, right? But has anybody skied there yet this season? Not sure how much snowmaking they have there to...

SLC - stay in Sandy or Downtown?

We stayed at the Residence Inn Cottonwood last year. Friendly staff, good rooms and very convenient for BCC/LCC - only a couple minutes drive to the bottom of BCC. We also drove up to Park City from there and it was easy. Has a kitchenette and there is a pretty good breakfast buffet included...

SLC - stay in Sandy or Downtown?

Crazy, indeed. Two hours each way... Guess it's a fun scene on the bus. I should perhaps have mentioned that we will be there with our boys, 7 and 10. So our opportunities to really take advantage of being downtown are limited. Come 9pm, we're normally asleep before the kids are...

SLC - stay in Sandy or Downtown?

Thanks for the replies, and the restaurant recommendations. I think I'm leaning towards Sandy at the moment - the extra 15 minutes definitely makes a difference. I'm not good in traffic at the best of times and so the thought of being stuck in traffic downtown (particularly on a powder...

SLC - stay in Sandy or Downtown?

Planning our trip to SLC for March. This time my hotel points give us two options for hotels. One is in Sandy, which I know is relatively convenient for Cottonwood. The other is a better hotel for us, but is downtown (285 West Broadway), so a bit further away, I think. With a rental car...

Brighton and Solitude with the family

Alright, so it?s now the end of March and our trip was in January, so this post is not exactly useful for the latest snow reports. But I promised myself that I would write something for the board, mainly to pay my debt for all the great info I got from posters before the trip, so here goes...

    UT this weekend

You guys are awesome - thanks again for all the info! Just called Snowbird and they reassured me that the kids deals (free under 6, $10 for age 7-10) also apply if you have the Super Pass, so we will definitely be heading up there for at least one day. The kids will be skiing with us that day...

    UT this weekend

Thanks for all the replies. With the additional cost for the kids at Brighton the field is a little more even, so I think our plan now is to buy the Super Pass and try Solitude, Brighton and Snowbird for a day each, and then go back to the one we like best on the last day. I guess Snowbird...

    UT this weekend

Thanks for solving my curiosity on the bus question and also for the heads-up on the Snowbird deal. I guess I didn't even really consider skiing at Snowbird because the lift-ticket is pricey to start with and I just assumed it would be the same for kids. Now, here's the interesting question...

    UT this weekend

I've been watching this thread with interest, as I'm heading out to SLC on Wednesday with my wife and our two boys. This will certainly be our only trip out West and could well be our only decent skiing of the season if the weather in the East doesn't pick up, so we are psyched, and watching...

    Skiing single in france

If you are traveling single, you might want to consider taking a lesson while you are there, even if you're good skier. In the higher level groups, the instructors are really happy to take you off-piste and show you parts of the mountain that you would never be able to find safely by yourself...
