    EC Closing Dates 2011

FWIW, Cannon's base lodges are 2000'ish. 1800' would be below even the lowest slope of Mittersill. Regardless of exact elevation, that would again support my suspicion that Cannon has historically under reported.

    EC Closing Dates 2011

Interesting. Can't wait to see that 10-11 number your contact has. 07-08 was a huge year for Cannon. I only got to Cannon a half dozen or so times this year but I just didn't see 07-08 base depths. Maybe I am just not remembering correctly. Cannon did get nailed in December. Snow banks were...

    EC Closing Dates 2011

Keep us posted on Cannon, if you don't mind. Very curious to hear what your insiders have for numbers vs what the web site says. Jay just announced they will spin the Jet again next weekend! =D>

    Kmart 5/1/11 RIP

Lots of Killington Refuges at Jay today. Last week, it seemed like at least every other skier was from Quebec. This week it seemed like at least every other skier usually skis Killington. I bet Jay broke even if not made a profit this weekend. :stir:

    Kmart 5/1/11 RIP

Whoa! Tony is starting to talk like he's in a Killington thread for real and not just arm chairing. LOL. :rotfl:

    Kmart 5/1/11 RIP

Sunday was $39 at Jay. They had Jet, Bonnie, Metro, Village, and the Magic Carpet turning. Amazing that they truly had terrain for all abilities. I heard that the Tram and Flyer had electrical issues and as a result got shut down which probably lowered the price to $39. Otherwise, it was most...

    Burke, VT HSQ

The previously permitted clearing has not yet happened. That map is just updated to included the HSQ so probably focuses on clearing related to the lift. They did a little clearing done on Willoughby a few years ago, but that is it. They totally killed Willoughby. Used to be one of greatest...

    Burke, VT HSQ

If I recall correctly, I think there was a lot of yellow markings that indicated either new trails or widening. I think only HSQ related cutting would happen immediately.

    Burke, VT HSQ

Ascutney closed this season. Burke is actually well suited to tap the Boston Metro market. Burke is closer to Boston than many (all?) of NoVT and mostly highway, another perk. And from the I-91 corridor, Burke is about the same drive time from the I89/I91 split as other NoVT resorts (I don't...

    Burke, VT HSQ

These documents were just linked to over on AZ: http://www.anr.state.vt.us/site/cfm/act ... m?ID=25809 http://www.anr.state.vt.us/Imaging/Plan ... 20Plan.pdf I am really uncomfortable with the trail widening and additions planned. I am all for a HSQ at Burke but if it is at the expense of...

    Burke, VT HSQ

I can't speak for Ascutney but Burke is a special place, you definitely missed out.

    Burke, VT HSQ

That is the rumor I have heard as well. I didn't know the source of the rumor I heard well enough but it seems to becoming a pretty popular unnamed source type rumor.

    Burke, VT HSQ

I think the only thing to be careful of here is another bankruptcy. Though a HSQ summit lift will absolutely bring a LOT more visits to Burke. It is the only thing any one complains about at Burke--and it is enough to keep many from coming back. Hell, even I will admit to occasionally bemoaning...

    2010-11 Ski-Day Count

While I concur this thread always starts to early every year, it has nothing to do with east or west. Many northeast areas are still operating with about a half dozen having the potential to go into May. Not to speak of those who will be earning turns well into the summer. The Loaf plans to stay...

    Above Average NE Snowfall?

If you get non-official numbers from patrol, I would VERY MUCH like to see them to either confirm my hypothesis or get some egg on my face.

    Above Average NE Snowfall?

I am calling BS on Cannon. I swear they either changed their measurement location, changed how they measure, or grew a longer ruler. 250" at Cannon would be at least second best season ever if not their very highest ever recorded. 07-08 I believe was second most ever at the time. Granted, I have...

    EC Closing Dates 2011

I emailed Smuggs and the response says Madonna closes after Saturday this weekend and they'll have Sterling only for Sunday. Seems kinda weird, no? They didn't say that this Sunday was their last day but based on the response, I think it is safe to assume this is it for Smuggs.

    Ski Villages and Authenticity Revisited

Preferences. It is all about preferences. It is a really slippery slope once you start applying impossible to define terms. There is nothing wrong with saying "I prefer this mountain because it doesn't artificially imitate another culture" or "I prefer mountains where most employees live in town...

    Jay Peak, VT 03/02/11

Ha! I could not have pulled you down Exhibition, Harv! You had trees dancing in your eyes all three days. It is a rare treat to get nice pow on open slopes. The groomers are my favorite tree shot when they have +6" of blow... its just one really widely space tree run and you can let em' open...
