    Cannon Could Go Private

I just dont think this particular season has been kind to eighther side of this debate. The warm January, lots of r@!n, lac of natural snow, and a few nasty freeze thaw freeze cycles have made it difficult to dedicate rescources to maintaining a dedicated bump course. It's much easier and costs...

    Cannon Could Go Private

As far as the kids in the FSC goes, if they see bumps, jumps, jibs, and pipes, they are kids and wont be able to keep themselves away. It's the race coaches that will try and stop them cuz they know it's more fun and they'll be out of a job  ! ((* *))NHPH

    Cannon Could Go Private

I dont think Riv is getting killed. As a matter of fact I think he has some excellent points, like other folks in here too. I agree that the snowmaking on the front could have included the sides or at least 3/4 and not just a strip down the middle. But I also agree that it's often worth the wait...

    Cannon Could Go Private

Riverc0il wrote Very well put! I would much rather have a few days of "technicle" skiing on the sides because the end result is a much more appealling product to experts in the end. And the groomed centre or side is a good compromise. I am of the mindset that every trail doesn't need...

    Cannon Could Go Private

HDH, I appreciate your opinion and enthusiasm but I am on the polar side of your letter. Just about everything you are looking to make Cannnon into are the reasons I dont ski MOST other resorts. I think privatization will make bottom lines #1 and the skiing experience #2. Cannon's following go...

    Stowe, VT, 2/12/06

Nice pics! I talked with a couple guys who skied Smuggs on Tuesday 2/14 and they said it snowed all day just like at Jay. I would bet Stowe got some too. You can see from your pics that lots of nasties are still lurking just beneath the surface. I had to jib and jump a couple logs at Jay that...

    Jay Peak Vermont 2/13, 14 & 15 w/powder pics!

I left home late Sunday morning to light/moderate snow falling but it diddnt take long for it to fizzle out to nothing the further north and west I traveled  . After an unusually uneventful drive up I arrived at Jay and the sun was trying to poke out of the clouds while a blizzard was...

    Cannon 2/10 w/pics

After almost commiting a triple vehicular deerslaughter on the way up I arrived about 9:45 and missed hooking up with JimG,Dan D and AndyZee for the 9:30 meeting. Conditions in the AM were a bit brisk with a -10F temp and -35 windchill but the phenomenal packed powder made up for it! Not much...

    Soggy Cannon, NH 2/3

Got to Cannon thursday afternoon about 4:50 and promptly headed to the Lift pub to do some "research" for friday. After "research" ended about 6'ish and I headed over to my friends place at the Mittersill Resort where he is an owner. Wow! Nice place! Huge rooms w/a hot tub and picture windows...

    Mount Washington/ Tucks................Where's the posts?

Nope, not me. Last year I had 3-5 trips by this time. The only skinning i've done this year was when I climbed Flatten Woods during a nor'easter December 16. http://forums.alpinezone.com/viewtopic.php?t=6937 Very soon though. ((* *))NHPH

Riv wrote Excellent advice! The Town and Country Motor Lodge is a great choice for the Gorham area and you'll get more hotel for less $$$ than Lincoln or North Conway. And if you feel like hitting up the tax free outlets of North Conway then it's a short but very scenic 25 minute ride. I think...

    Cannon Friday the 13'th w/pics!

I slept in a bit in anticipation of firm conditions first thing. I got to the mountain about 10:00 and geared up to warm temps and blue skys. The ride up the Peabody Express revealed lots of cover lost from last week  . But things looked like they were softening up a bit and the day had...
