    Castle Mt., 2/8/08

I studied both trail maps closely and it does look like Fernie has more blue lines in each of their bowls than Castle does. If the trail maps are accurate I think that my daugther should be able to handle an ungroomed blue run. I think we'll give Fernie a try.

    Castle Mt., 2/8/08

I'm going to be in Alberta next week and plan to squeeze in a couple days of skiing with my daughter (intermediate skier). At this time I'm trying to decide between Fernie and Castle because we have not skied either one before. Both areas have received a lot of snow in the last week so I would...

    Panorama Feb.2 and 3

This is my 5th consecutive year at Panorama (friend with ski in /ski out condo= free accommodation). similar to Tony Crocker's report regarding Kicking Horse the conditions this year are best I have seen here. Taynton Bowl and the Extreme Dream Zone are pretty much tracked out but are still...

    Mont Ste.Anne after the rain

thanks guys for giving me a kick in the butt, I didn't mean to sound that negative. I considerthe two days I skied with Steve Mayer the best ski days I have experienced and yes, that was because of the quality of terrain at Whistler and also because Steve showed us terrain I would never have...

    Mont Ste.Anne after the rain

I'm working on it but even in the west I have had mixed results. Two years ago I skied at Whistler in Feb. after the snowiest Jan in Whistler history but by the time I got there on Feb. 6th Whistler hadn't received any snow for 8 days. Even Steve Mayer at Extremely Canadian couldn't find any...

    Mont Ste.Anne after the rain

thanks for the inside info guys. With no local ski areas less than a 2 hour drive from home I always have to plan my ski trips well in advance. As the time for my trip gets closer I'm checking the weather and snow conditions every day and so when I read about warm temperature and rain I always...

    Mont Ste.Anne after the rain

After checking the MSA website I am somewhat surprised to see that their open trail count has gone from almost completely open to having only 33/66 trails open after the recent rain. I would have thought that after receiving 3 metres of snow this season the trails would have stood up a little...

    Mont-Sainte-Anne (Quebec City)-Dec 15

I haven't been to MSA for over 20 years but decided to schedule a week there starting Dec.30. Because of last winter I paid for cancellation insurance. If the thaw only lasts two days as forecasted it appears that I won't need it.

    Visiting from England next week

I'm also heading out to Utah next week, 3 days at PC followed by 3 days in SLC. Admin, regarding your comment about the snow at the Canyons, even with the snow fall in the last two weeks is PCMR still a better choice than the Canyons?

    lodging near Stowe

thanks guys, I just made reservations at the Plaza Hotel which is a lot closer to Stowe or Smuggs than anything I could find.

    lodging near Stowe

I would like to jump in my car after work on Friday on head to Stowe. According to mapquest it looks like an 8 hour drive so I'm thinking it would be best to have a hotel room booked before I get there. I have never to this area of Vermont so I don't know about local lodging. The closest rooms I...

Eastern Skis: your powder weapon of choice...

6' 0", 205lb, after demoing numerous skiis last year I settled on Atomic Metron B5. These skiis have handled everything from powder to slush, soft snow to boilerplate, great in tight trees, super quick and responsive. The only thing they don't like to do is go straight.

Longest "interesting" Blue/Black Trails in NA???

This month's Ski Canada lists Whistler's Peek to Creek as N. America's longest intermediate run.

    Laurentian Report ( Quebec )

I couldn't agree with you more Patrick, constantly hearing people talk about the great winter we are having is driving me nuts. I normally buy a ski pass at Blue Mountain, for some reason I didn't this year, I hope that didn't jinx the weather ...

    Jay Peak, VT: 12/31/06

Thanks for the pictures, maybe conditions weren't up to usual Jay standards but it still looks like heaven compared to conditions in western NY or southern Ontario (6 deg. C and rain). If it wasn't an 8 hr drive I would have been there...
