Where are you going this season (25/26)?

No doubt, Tony, some of the best snow conditions throughout almost all of the Northeast (even where I live in southern/middle New England) in the past 10 years or so. The combination of sustained cold weather - good for snow making - and several smaller snowstorms and one large snow storm, with...

Where are you going this season (25/26)?

My daughter and I have now booked out Banff trip to March 22 to March 29 of this year. Looking forward to some real skiing!

Where are you going this season (25/26)?

LOL, Tony, you would think. I mean, my daughter grew up her entire life in New England with cold winters, spent four years in college in Minnesota, and has lived for the past 6 years or so in Montreal BUT she doesn't really like cold weather and doesn't do that well in really cold temps - I know...

Where are you going this season (25/26)?

Well, I just got some disappointing news. My daughter, with whom I was going to do a father/daughter ski trip to Banff in late February of this year (2026), just called to say she needs emergency surgery (relatively minor), so we have to postpone our ski trip to either late March/early April of...

    Oregon's Insurance Crisis

Always hard to know what the real facts were just based upon the pleadings of the lawyers. Obviously, the lawyers representing the plaintiff here try to present a fact situation and case most favorable to their client. I wonder if the guides are covered through the company's insurance policy. I...

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

Heck, I pulled the metal edges off of my skis. We don't need no stinking metal edges, when you're getting snow every three days.

    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

I think the explanation from Marz copied below is what happened to Brodie. I've also linked a longer history of Brodie Mountain that explains the purchase of Brodie by Jiminy Peak. Obviously, in retrospect, it probably didn't make sense (I don't know if the Fairbanks got their purchase price...

    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

Brodie had been owned by the Kelly family. St. Patrick's Day was always a big party at Brodie. Yea, they turned the land into a 9-hole (I think) golf course and it has been recently sold to someone who is going to create a "glamping" site there. I never quite understood why Jiminy bought Brodie.

    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

Marz: One of the best days I've ever had skiing in the Northeast (condition-wise) was about 30 years ago at Jiminy Peak. I went up for a day (it's about a 50-minute drive for me) and, although I don't think it was predicted by the weather forecasters, there were heavy snow squalls all during...

Sorry! I'm not sure it's an official nickname but what I have called Butternut over the years.

    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

Yea, Chris, I live about half way between Butternut and Catamount; it's a 15-minute drive to either one from where I live. Jiminy Peak is about a 50-minute drive for me. You're right about Butternut - not very challenging terrain but it's a good mountain for families with young kids because the...

    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

Heavy snow ended around midnight but is now snowing again - 11:00 AM Monday morning, Jan. 26. Funny type of snow, though. Not really crystalline flakes but not really sleet. Just very fine and tiny little snow "particles". We may get another inch or two today. I'd say we got, maybe 15 to 16...

    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

Good question. I'm not sure. There are actually two smaller (1,000 ft. vertical) ski areas near me - 15 to 20 minute drives. One is mostly lower intermediate with a few moderately steep pitches on a few trails. This is the one that can be a problem if TOO much snow. Ideal "powder" day there is...

    Project 101: USA Road Trip

I call days like this "one run" days. You make one run and then go into the lodge before frostbite sets in. Once you warm up, you go back out for another run. Not fun skiing, IMHO.

    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

LOL, Tony. It MAY have to wait one day. Still snowing here. and cold, although it has warmed up to the mid-teens at 9:45 PM EST. But was in the single digits almost all day long. We've gotten, maybe 12 to 14 inches so far (although it seems deeper than that). And we're expected to get another 8...

    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

5 degrees (F) and snowing moderately hard here in the Berkshires of western MA. Still predicting 12-18", with some places getting 24-30". Very fine and light snow, so far.

    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

No doubt many Pats' fans will be indoors on Sunday watching the game. It's a good thing it's not being played in Foxboro. That time is predicted to be, pretty much, the height of the storm with blizzard conditions possible then. I don't know if the NFL would have postponed the game? Re Bill...

    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

Yea, Tony, we're, more or less, in the bullseye for maximum snow, here in central New England. At least 12" and maybe up to 18"to 24" in certain locations (somewhat elevation dependent), according to the weather forecasters. It should be a very light, fluffy snow (maybe not quite the blower...
