    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

Yea, Tony, we're, more or less, in the bullseye for maximum snow, here in central New England. At least 12" and maybe up to 18"to 24" in certain locations (somewhat elevation dependent), according to the weather forecasters. It should be a very light, fluffy snow (maybe not quite the blower...

    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

Sometimes, just the opposite, Tony. People who might otherwise be driving up from NYC or the NYC suburbs to ski for the weekend will stay home when they see the predictions that driving back home on Sunday, in the height of the storm, will be terrible and Monday may not be much better. Plus, it...

    Le Massif Strike

They cancelled their entire ski season?? Jeez. But the proletariats at ski areas around North America are unhappy with their low pay and lousy working conditions while the resort owners get rich on $280 daily lift tickets and $35 hamburgers.

    Northern VT: what a start

this is, pretty much, my experience skiing in the Northeast. They can cover up the icy, hard base with manmade snow (or natural snow) but it usually get skied off quite fast on busy days.

Article on the "underbelly" at ski resorts

https://archive.is/hgpmz Interesting story on the "sinister underbelly" at ski resorts. It is from the "Daily Mail", so take it with the proverbial grain of salt!

    Northern VT: what a start

Thank you, JSpin, for this lengthy and informative discussion of the meteorological vagaries of snowfall in the northern Green Mountains. As anyone who lives in New England knows, winter weather patterns can be quite varied in the different sections of the six states (although not separated by...

    Northern VT: what a start

I drove up to Montreal yesterday, from western Mass, up I-87 (the Northway) through the Adirondacks. There was no snow along the highway all the way up (completely bare ground) and there looked to be just a dusting of snow at the highest elevations. And there was no snow on the ground in...

    Best US Ski Towns

Yea, my small local ski hill, for many years, would recruit many of their seasonal workers - cafeteria, liftties, rental shop, etc. - from various South American countries; mostly college kids down there who are on their "Summer vacation" and jumped at the opportunity to come live and work in...

Challenges of Running An Independent NE Ski Area

I have always wondered about the financials for some of the smaller, individually-owned ski areas, especially in southern New England and lower NY state. I realize they do take in a fair amount of money pre-season from season ticket sales, race programs sales, etc. I did once ask an acquaintance...

Lindsey Vonn: St. Moritz FIS Downhill Win!

She reminds me a little of Tiger Woods, in his prime, on the pro golf tour, although Mikeala is even more dominant than Tiger was. Just a superior talent and has all of her fellow competitors psyched out.

Challenges of Running An Independent NE Ski Area

53 degrees (F) here this morning in southern New England with heavy rain and very high winds. Yesterday, it looked the frozen arctic around here with completely snow-covered ground and now this morning, we have green grass in our back yard and much of the snow has melted away overnight. UGH...

    Northern VT: what a start

Unfortunately, we are getting a major warm up tonight (Thursday, Dec. 18) into tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 19 , in the northeast. It may spike into the low 50's in southern NE into the 40's in northern NE and Eastern Quebec, with a lot of rain and flood watches have been posted. It may not wipe out...

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

The tram at Jackson Hole is now open, along with the upper two chairlifts - Sublette and Thunder. Looks like still a limited amount of skiable terrain open, though. There is a winter storm warning for the next two days, with up to 2 to 3 feet at elevation. Unfortunately, the prediction is that...

Interesting story in yesterday's NY Times (Saturday, Dec. 13) about the proposed $3 billion base development at Killington. We'll see if the development company can get all of the necessary approvals from local authorities and the state of Vermont to build out such a huge new base area.

    Mountain High, Dec. 12, 2025

Looks more like the white "highway" of death. Pretty good coverage from side to side on those trails and the skier density doesn't look too bad. When I broke my back skiing several years ago, on the last ski day of the season, I was on a true WROD, about 10 ft. wide that connected two larger...

Lindsey Vonn: St. Moritz FIS Downhill Win!

Lindsay finished second today in the second St. Moritz downhill, .24 seconds behind the 22-year old German skier, Emma Aicher. Obviously, not as good as another win, but still a great run for Lindsay. Maybe she CAN dominate in the speed races this season.
