    Tucks 4-16-05

Great Pics. It was an amazing day up there. Best weather I've ever seen. We climbed Right Gully and up the snowfields to just a couple hundred feet below the summit. Snowfields were in great shape. Had nice turns down to the Lip. There was a bit of a logjam at the top of the lip, because...

Will need passport to cross the US-Canada border in 2007-8.

I guess I'm sort of glad to hear I'm not the only one who's seen this issue. As Mark indicated, the stories could fill a book...or volumes. Sometimes I've been embarased to be from the US when I hear the bueracratic nonsense people go through. I think the most frustrating part is that it's...

Will need passport to cross the US-Canada border in 2007-8.

I'm not sure if this specific law makes a difference, but realistically, this may impact my ski trips outside the US. I have an active passport. I agree with Tony and others that this probably makes sense. However, I travel with a large and diverse group of people. I have friends legally...

    Accent skis for snowboarding?

HUGE props to H-dog for spend the time to put that post together. He covered it all. And he's right, it's hard to explain the the binding system, but it works. As he said, these boards really don't perform well at the resort, even on a pow day the weight of the thing hanging from the lift...

Cape Cod, the hidden ski resort

Just got the same on the South Shore. Some of the fluffiest tracks and turns of the year.

    Accent skis for snowboarding?

I'll second that. The only way to go is a split board. It's true that's its more expensive, but after you've tried everything else you'll eventually break down and get one (then you'll have spent money on a split, and snowshoes, and acent skis.....). I've heard mixed success on the...

    heli skiing in '06

I went through the same decision making process recently and ended up going with Chugach Powder Guides out of Girdwood, AK. I can't imagine how it could have been better. They have a huge permit area, with exposures in every direction to choose from. The AK snowpack is very stable, so steeper...

    Taos Snowboard Ban

Thanks Kill, Yeah I remember that story too. On the old RSN forums the TSV group was funny because it was exclusively devoted to people talking about everything EXCEPT TSV. The only time TSV got mentioned was: 1) when some nutjob like "mount-a-man" spouted off about the beauty of no...

    Cannon, NH: 02/12/05

Great report guys! We hit it early too and were on the 3rd tram. Took a couple of screamers on the insanely soft corduroy to warm up and make the most of it before the masses went to work on it. Wish I'd read your Friday report...dropped into banshee glade and learned the hard way that the...

    Taos Snowboard Ban

Well, obviously this topic is pretty tired at this point. I hardly have the interest or energy to go through all this silliness again. But since a good chunk of this thread was lost during the hacker situation awhile back, I'll briefly go over this again. There is only one REAL reason that...

    Brighton - Snowbird 1/29 - 2/2

Just back from the Wasatch, quick trip report. Landed at SL late morning 1/29. Drove up to Brighton, bought a 1/2 day pass, on the mountain by 1:00. Stuck to the Milli chair all afternoon. The bowl had been heavily skied, but we found soft stashes here and there, especially in the Aspens on...

Ski Santa Fe 1/14-1/15, Taos 1/16-1/18, Wolf Creek 1/19-1/22

Great report. Give me Santa Fe over Taos any day. This is a typical day at Taos......but snowboarders would ruin the mountain?!?!?

Did only 6 people in the forum ski this weekend?

True enough.....just depends on what you call the goods. I had drifts over the top of my truck (7'). And a good portion of the 20' waves were rolling down the street. Needless to say, driving was not an option. But with the wind howling and chest deeps drifts to contend with, breaking...

    Powder, Chowder, Crud, etc.

0-20 across New England. Unfortunatley we're stuck in another of those patterns where the Cape keeps getting hit harder than the mtns.

    Powder, Chowder, Crud, etc.

I have one foolproof way to handle all the conditions you describe.... Snowboard!!!!! Before I get I beat up for that one...... I LOVE skiing powder. But ever since I started snowboarding, I just can't bring myself to choose the skis over the board when it's freshie time.

    Are you centered?

I reccomend spending a day or two on teles. Don't bother trying to learn telemark turns. Just ski as you always would. The free heel will immediatly expose any off-center tendencies.

    leashes

Patrol shouldn't have to endager themselves for someone else's mistake...but I'm not sure I understand... Did the boards fall off from the lift? If so, then it helps makes my point. Skis are FAR more likely to fall off from the lift, yet no leash is required. Or did the boards come off...

    leashes

(whoops, a case of premature submission) because I'd like to make a couple of other points about the "newbie theory". 1) many leashes that they sell these days are about 3-4" long and just clip to a D-ring on the boot. This means that the leash is so short you actually have to be strapped in...

    leashes

Well I thought of that one....but I don't buy it. If you're totally undone from your bindings and carrying your board, you will have the leash disconected as well (they don't make them long enough to walk while connected). Which means newbie puts down board, tries screwing around with little...

    leashes

I am looking for some insight from the many, many years of combined experience of the skiers/riders on this forum. Please help. Yesterday, I was out at my favorite local mountain, where I have skied and snowboarded for the last 20 years. Several times over the course of the day I was...
