SLC advice for Park City QuickStart 2/7/2013, etc.

Yes, the QuickStart program continues through April 14th this year, although the 2nd half of Feb. and all of March are blacked out: http://www.visitparkcity.com/quickstart ... tartstep=1 Thanks for the replies, Evren, Tony, and Marc. Looks like DV is the ticket, at least this time. Any more...

SLC advice for Park City QuickStart 2/7/2013, etc.

I'll be flying into SLC at 9:30 AM on Thurs., 2/7/2013 with a friend. We plan to ski at one of the Park City resorts using their Quick Start program. It looks like there may not be fresh snow then. Which area would you all recommend for that day? We'll be in town through Monday, 2/11. Hopefully...

What elevation do you have to be above to get over the inversion layer, typically?

    Western Weather 2010-14

Wonder if I should change my 1/24-1/28 SLC plans to 2/7-2/11. I can't push it out any further than early Feb. due to my work schedule.

Evren, I second Socal's sentiments. Your reports are helpful. Hopefully you can overlook the ofttimes curmudgeonly tone of these boards and continue to post.

NY Times feature about Stevens Pass February 2012 Avalanche

Wow, that is sobering. It's scary to realize how groupthink can cause even experienced, careful people to go with the flow, despite external warning signs of danger and (for some) internal foreboding. It seems especially important to be on your guard when you're with several experienced...

    PCMR: Spenny, son of Schubwa

Does it make you nervous seeing your son do tricks in such close proximity to big metal park features without a helmet? It would be nice to see them wearing helmets, to protect their own heads, as well as to set a good example to those who look up to them.

$59 Baldy Virtual Season Pass for first timers

If you've never had a season pass at Mt. Baldy, they're offering one for $59.00. You have to register online each time the day before you ski or ride. I would go for it, but I already bought 2 day tickets and have a 3rd carried over from last year. Link...

Mt Baldy (CA) cheap 12/13 lift tickets

I got in 2 nice powder days near the end of the 2011-2012 season on my rock skis. I had a lot of good runs (along with core shots) on both days. I got an email about getting credit for my single unused ticket from last season, but it wasn't clear about how to use it. The email said "These...

Mt. Baldy, CA, April 14, 2012 (Pics added)

There is a program called Blue Angels that has bus transportation from a number So. CA cities to Mountain High, where they have a 5 week program for youth ski/snowboard instruction every season. My daughter had a soccer teammate a few years ago that had done it with a sibling and enjoyed it...

Mt. Baldy, CA, April 14, 2012 (Pics added)

You made the right choice. I took my daughter to Baldy once when she was about 10 years old (after taking her cross country skiing when she was younger). I put her in lessons, but she didn't enjoy it. I think she overheated from climbing up the little beginners area (Baldy has no true beginner's...

Mt. Baldy, CA, April 14, 2012 (Pics added)

Day 6 I debated whether or not to go to Baldy on Saturday, but I'm glad I did. It was definitely a day for rock skis/boards, but it was also a decent powder day. I arrived at about 8:30 AM, waited for the short ticket line, then went up chair 1. Thunder Mtn. wasn't open yet, so I took a run...

By the looks of his personalized plate his wishful thinking isn't limited to his car (although "Altasno" won't look so oxymoronic next season, hopefully, and truth be told Alta's snowfall even in this tough season has been better than at a lot of other areas.)

    Mt. Baldy, CA 03262012

I got to the ticket line (long and slow) around 9:00, got to Thunder around 10:00. It appeared to have been open awhile, based on the tracks. The lady I talked to about Monday said she had a season pass last season and came out a lot, including some powder days. I think she was looking at the...

    Mt. Baldy, CA 03262012

Mt. Baldy got a decent dump of snow a week ago, but it was atop almost no base, so I didn't go up. I decided to go today after another storm on Sunday dropped about a foot more on top of last week's snow. Since there still wasn't enough to give decent coverage, I brought my older "rock skis"...
