Fernie is Melting - Alternatives for Last Week in March?

You are right about the melting snow. BC's had it rough this winter and out here on the coast it feels like early May. I know Fernie's had a pretty tough season too. I would think you might be better off looking at the ski opportunities south of the border. I've heard that Utah is in pretty...

    Whistler

hmmm, i was wondering if perhaps i was getting spoiled since living here for that past year. it is true, a bad day on the mountain is still better than just about anything else. i also know my attitude towards riding was a lot different during a two week vacation than it is now. so maybe my...

    Whistler

i don't have much to add, i'm afraid. i went up the mountain on tuesday, expecting that the unseasonably warm temps might make for some soft turns, but it was quite the opposite. the groomies have been scraped down to some real icy patches, and the only thing close to decent was the ungroomed...

    Solitude/Brighton - 2/12/05

nice reports all around. sounds like you got a season's worth of snow packed into one week - at least a season's worth in whistler. so many places to visit, so little time. i was surprised by your review of brighton. until reading this i'd heard nothing but the best things about this place...

    bone dry at WB

I haven't posted a report in a while, because I was hoping my next one would have something good to say. But since it has now been 2 weeks since any significant snow has fallen, I'm afraid I have to report again on the disappointing conditions this year up in Whistler. As mentioned, two weeks...

    Whistler 2 week forecast?

There has been some pretty nice alpine conditions since the 30cms. If you stick to the bowl areas you'll have some great runs, although you might need a serious base grind and edge sharpening by mid-trip. You are right about the trees - forget about it. Only the base in the alpine survived the...

    Whistler 2 week forecast?

here are some of the forecasts i use (with my own personal opinion about each): environment canada: http://weatheroffice.ec.gc.ca/canada_e.html they have good satellite radar animations, but they only make 5 day forecasts. they also provide a 5 day alpine forecast that you can find on the...

    Red Mt 1-30-05

cool shots. i'm assuming this isn't the red mt. in BC? the dog must be loving it!

    big sky 1/27/05. park day

WOW! You basically summed up what I was going to say about Whistler. That system that moved through has really killed a lot of places. It's true, Baker is still closed and waiting for snow. Groomies and park riding is about all that's left up here. Anything off piste - forget about it! And...

    whistler - 050121

The rain finally subsided long enough for me to venture up the mountain today. Anything below 1800m has been completely destroyed by the rain - the coverage is worse than late april last year (and last spring sucked). The run outs have survived for now, but only because they had been blowing...

Northwest is bad! Whistler to Big Mt to Fernie - RAIN!

hey - i can tell you it's bad!! it's worse than you could realistically imagine - but it is still only january. and it has been snowing above 1800m. i'll be going up tomorrow to check it out so i'll report first hand. to give you an idea though, yesterday you couldn't get higher than wizard...

    whistler report - 050116

AAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!! Have to vent my frustration. It is pissing buckets outside. Went up this morning and found that what small amount of new snow that fell overnight had already been completely drenched in pouring rain. It was a one run day, and that's only because I had to get down somehow...

    whistler report - 050116

Well, things this year just seem to go from bad to worse. Been up the last few days, and managed to find some fun riding, but the snow is incredibly sparse and much of the best parts of the mountains are closed due to lack of cover. I was shocked to find most of the Whistler peak closed...

    time for another whistler update

i am hoping to make it out to whitewater this year too. never been before, but i've heard nothing but the best things about it. just like sutton in quebec, it may be the best kept secret in the west. and they've got snow. also heard about that big dump in red. have fun!

    time for another whistler update

norm, i do believe i'm cursed. 2 years ago i spent 14 days in the BC interior in february and didn't see a flake of snow. that's when i decided to move out here - so the weather couldn't plan around me. well, it just decided to move south instead. tony, my heart goes out to you. i'm sure...

    time for another whistler update

Sad to say, nothing new here. There is a lot of angst in Whistler right now, as we watch California get pounded. Heck, even Vancouver got 10cms last week, and we got nothing. It's so bad that the WB website is back adding 1-2 cm over the past week. Maybe...if they're counting hoar frost...

    Mammoth, 12/18&19/04

very nice pics. i'd really love to visit mammoth at some point. the scenery looks incredible. i love seeing those arid foothills in the distance. apparently with my WB season pass i get discounted rates at other intrawest resorts. anyone know of some good cheap places to stay down there?
