    South America 2026

Didn't remember that Valle Nevado has been on the Mountain Collective since 2014. The MC website has closing dates for 2025-26 that also includes opening dates for the southern hemisphere. For Valle Nevado, it says "2026 OPENING: June 14, 2026 (announced target); June 19, 2026 (operational...

    South America 2026

TGR had an article about what to expect at Valle Nevado in 2026. No mention of El Colorado. March 2026 https://www.tetongravity.com/valle-nevado-unveils-2026-opening-date-and-major-upgrades/ " . . . 2025-26 Season Recap

I managed to get in 37 days in spite of cancelling or shortening trips due to low snow and/or unexpected major medical issues for my husband that started mid-December. Was going to use a 4-day Epic pass (bought for CB) in PA in early March but with the heat wave it wasn't worth the drive so I...

    Snowbasin, UT, Mar. 19, 2024

That wasn't my experience in January 2025. Perhaps because Fridays are the new Saturdays these days. There were plenty of locals around that day, along with Ikon holders.

Yep, in the Dechutes National Forest. Looks like some progress on updating the Northwest lift. The huge 4-season resort called Sun Valley and Bend are less than a 30 minute drive. From US Forest Service website, April 27, 2026:

Vail: Epic Pass Sales and Strategy

It probably helped a lot to have a father willing to do long drives all over the country for ski trips to help him gain experience at big mountains in the Rockies and New England as his PSIA training progressed.

    Snowbasin, UT, Mar. 19, 2024

There are locals in the Ogden Basin who used to have Snowbasin season passes who have been completely put off by the increased number of people who are skiing there on a regular basis. My sense is that people who shell out for a Club Med experience wouldn't be that happy at Snowbasin as the...

Wasn't a long haul, but I just did that for a red-eye flight from SLC to BWI. Have always been able to sleep on overnight flights to Europe. For flights to China, I pretend the flight covers two "days." I sleep 4-5 hours after the first meal. Then deliberately stay awake the rest of the...

    Camelback PA: Spring Ops

KSL Resorts took over Camelback in 2019. Two years later, Blue Mountain was added to the KSL Resorts portfolio. Most of the resorts that KSL Resorts are golf and/or beach properties. KSL Resorts is related to but not the same as KSL Capital, which provided base funding for what became...

    Camelback PA: Spring Ops

Ever heard of the Victor Glacier? It's in Michigan. 2023-24 was the first season that Boyne Mountain created the Victor Glacier and kept a lift open until mid-May. Even allowed people to hike for turn on May 24, 2024. Last day in 2025 was May 19. Reminds me of the headlines generated during...

Spring 2026 in Utah Cottonwood Canyons

Short line for Collins at 9am this morning. Took a little while for the High T and Backside to open. My ski buddy is having a good time. More grooming on the Collins side than after the last storm that only dropped 4 inches. Key factor for today is that it's staying much colder all day long.

My ski buddy still at Alta considered staying a few extra days, but decided to head home on Sunday, April 19, as planned. Snowpine is open year round. GMD has opted to stay open until Alta lifts close on April 26. The other three lodges in the town of Alta will be closed after April 19.

Spring 2026 in Utah Cottonwood Canyons

If you only want to ski terrain off the High T, Backside, or Devil's Castle . . . I wouldn't bother to fly. My ski buddy (mid-70s) who drove from Albuquerque isn't headed home until Sunday, as has been his habit for a decade. He'll have a good time this weekend before he starts driving on...

Spring 2026 in Utah Cottonwood Canyons

Given how the lower section of Ballroom was on the warm days that Backside was closed after I arrived on April 6, it wasn't a surprise. The 4 inches on April 13 was the right density to be fun if you knew where to go. Fluffy snow would've meant dust-on-crust everywhere off-piste. Main Street...

Boarding on Southwest is running pretty smoothly. The electronic signs that used to say "1-30" and "31-60" and so on now start with "Group 1" and "Group 2" and go on from there. There are eight boarding groups. Groups 7 and 8 are the ones at risk of not having overhead bin space on a full...

The Black Mountain April Fool's definitely was believed for a while by some people. Apparently there was more than one story related to Mad River Glen in VT. Took me a few paragraphs to start laughing at Stuart's story. New England stories, April 3, 2026...

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

Wolf Creek had 19 inches of fresh snow as of 9am this morning. The Horseshoe snowcat (free) was running. Given the state of the rest of Colorado, I bet there are some people considering a drive south this week. Lift tickets are Adults $70, Seniors 65+ $51, and kids for $35 because the rest of...
