    Brundage, ID, Feb. 15, 2025

Made it up at opening today at Brundage... still really busy... only slightly less crowded than yesterday. Lift lines were minimal though, less than 2 min. After a foot yesterday, there was another 7-10" overnight (18:1) Fun, but felt yesterdays snow more than usual, since it was about 13:1...

deserted midweek is a bit of a stretch. I've lived here 6 yrs, and the midweek traffic has about doubled thanks to all the remote workers now. That said, from someone who rides a place like Mammoth a lot, deserted is still probably what comes to mind. I was just up at Brundage after running an...

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

Brundage yesterday was DEEP... (19-29" out of this very overproducing storm.) the entire town was there, but it was still fun and not truly crowded by most peoples standards.

Is Mt. Waterman Circling the Drain?

I saw that when it was on the news (vai ABC7 facebook). I thought it had already been mentioned on here, but I guess not. That's some heavy duty damage, for sure. I guess they're (Caltrans) is making plans to repair, which ultimately is good, as I would hate to see that access disappear...

Young Males Keep Falling From Chairlifts Out West

At Mammoth on Wednesday, I guess. Although... this was a girl.

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

Pretty much what TonyC said... The lack of details on the pattern change is because first of course, it's still about a week away... and second, models keep swinging rather wildly on how the storm track sets up, thanks largely to the departing high pressure ridge. Latest models (today)...

OpenSnow Data: Inflated Forecasts and Incorrect Actuals (24 Hour & History)

Yes. That really needs to be addressed. Some great ideas there, but kinda another cart before the horse situation. btw, not trying to "Advertise" myself here, but just for some backgound. I have my own facebook page where I forecast for my local community, including the ski areas. I've been...

OpenSnow Data: Inflated Forecasts and Incorrect Actuals (24 Hour & History)

yep, too automated with not enough human input. As many here know, I've been complaining for a long time about their extremely poor (overestimates) for Brundge Mtn, ID. This year was the first time I've seen one their (new) "local" forecasters acknowledge that fact in the "daily snow"...

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

The last two days at Tamarack ID, and especially Brundage were good to excellent on groomed runs. Firm, but still very carvable. Surprised how well they've been able to hold up, but it has been relatively cold recently. The 1-3" today won't be enough to refresh much, but I guess it's better than...

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

Damn, things continue to really not look good out west. The damn monster ridge just doesn't want to break down. Our trip Feb 9-14 to mt hood was scaled back to just bachelor and hoodoo. Now we're thinking of cancelling altogether, as reports I'm hearing are not good over there. Thankfully, we...

Article: Why Is Mount Baldy, CA So Deadly For Hikers?

Like TonyC said, It's narrow in spots with steep drop offs. It's usually pretty windy up there too, not to mention very exposed. It's the highest peak in the San Gabriel's at over 10,000 ft. Many that hike it are coming from close to sea level. As mentioned, winter is a different game...

    Beer thread

Does that even qualify as beer? 😬 In winter, I like a dark beer... scotch ales are my go to, although I enjoy a good porter or malty amber, also. I tend to go lighter in summer, however I stay away from IPA's. I really don't know how so many people like them.

Young Males Keep Falling From Chairlifts Out West

Ok, that's slightly better... but still, that sucks (especially for a boarder... good way to hurt someone).

For those in cheap seats in the back... Bar down yesterday at Brundage! (that's my wife next to me).

Young Males Keep Falling From Chairlifts Out West

Nope. Sure, there may be some rebellious kids out there doing if for that reason, but many of us that live out west and ski/ride year after year can tell you it's primarily just something most of us don't think about (putting the bar down). There's rarely a discussion about safety bars on the...

    Brundage Mtn, ID 1/7/26

Generally speaking, yes. It's one thing to have an occassional rain event during an AR or something, especially around the base... however we had rain all the way to the summit during many of the December storms.

    Brundage Mtn, ID 1/7/26

We finally have some fairly decent snow up here in ID, even though this past few days' storm was largely a bust. 2-4 ft has fallen in the last couple weeks, which has improved everything dramatically. Brundage is now 100% open as of this afternoon. All the groomers are good, and the trees are...

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

Other than the torchlight parade I participated in the other night at Brundage, I'm still waiting for the chance to get up on the mtn. I have midweek pass' at both Brundage and Tamarack that is invalid until Tuesday 1/6. While conditions here aren't good, it's been tough waiting this long for...
