Not sure how long your drive to the MWV is, but it's 7 hours each way for me. If I had a driving partner, or if I could stay over Saturday night and go home Sunday, I'd be packing my gear. But neither of those options is workable. Enjoy!

Every year is a bit better than the last...had more quantity this season than last which is good. Not as many powder days by far than last year, but alot of nice sunny days which is good. The days I skiied in the rain were not too bad, most of the heavy rain took place before or after skiing...

    Airplane Gully?

Still on my to do list. Even with all this great info provided, I doubt I will make my first attempt without 1 or several partners who have already been there. These are trips that are best enjoyed without the stress of uncertainty.

This is pretty amazing: http://www.tuckerman.org/accident/Summa ... ts2006.htm 2 things stand out; on 4/2, Hillman's was exactly the way it was on the day I mentioned in my previous post. I was there on a weekday and was the only idiot up there trying to ski. These folks saw the carnage and...

This statement bears some examination. I have crampons and always bring them when I'm at the rockpile. Very useful tools. But, without good judgement, they can get you in trouble, or even more trouble than you're already in. I remember a day a few years back. The weather all week had been...

Looks like I chose my vacation timing well; that does not look as nice as it was last week. The tuckerman.org site chronicles the many falling skiers in the bowl yesterday as well. The boot ladder in the lip area was very degraded and alot of folks bailed halfway up. Many of those who...

What should I do on Sunday? Jay, Stowe or Bush?

After that report from Jay, I'd go to Stowe.

    Global Warming and Skiing

Patrick, I understand how you feel. And I won't deny that America's decision to spurn Kyoto sends a bad message. What's worse, that decision was made because of politics and business, not environmentalism. After all, if we committed to cutting back on fossil fuel emissions our wonderful oil...

I like bumps, but I like lots of snow too. I'm sure I'd find a way to cope with it  .

    Global Warming and Skiing

Also very true. And I'm not saying the folks who feel global warming is affected by man are wrong, they aren't. I got rid of my SUV and bought a compact wagon...I've got a family of 5 and a small car just won't cut it. I don't waste electricity or heating fuel either. I live on a trout stream...

This is so true! And I have no beef with terrain parks, they're essential to an area's success today. Nor do I have a beef with traditional downhill racing. But, given the fact Tony has mentioned, it is illogical for bumpers and park rats to clash over the scraps of terrain they get after the...

There is some truth to both of your opinions. The Hunter race foundation has made no bones about its' disdain for bump skiing...they'd rather not even deal with it; they did away with the annual Hunter bump comp this season. And Killington has turned most of Bear Mountain into a terrain park...

    Global Warming and Skiing

This is the key question. I am not in the camp that suggests that human activity is the cause of global warming. I do not deny that we have contributed to it to some degree with pollution, but I think global warming/cooling is cyclical and quite normal. I'm not sure that Tony's question can be...

Eastern Closing Dates (planned or probable)

Hunter did do a great job this season. Still a TON of snow left on the lower K27 headwall. Resorts close because of a lack of paying skier visits, not lack of snow. If there's no profit motive, the lifts don't spin.

We get tied up in our passions and in the process of defending our position, we sometimes use a tone that is harsh. I've gotta watch that too, I can be equally guilty of doing it. When they mowed down the bump course at Hunter on March 22 I went totally nuts. It was a weekday and I went right...

I'm not disagreeing with you...just trying to point out that the "attack" was probably caused by passion and frustration, as well as the possibility that past responses in other threads were viewed as "attacks" too. It always takes 2 to tango, and sometimes folks don't even know they're part of...

Just a fantastic day! Steve and Ned, thanks so much for the great company. The 3 of us made a good team and we all seemed to hike/ski at the same pace. I can't recall a more perfect experience at Mt. Washington regarding weather, conditions, and partners. From start to finish it was a great...

Eastern Closing Dates (planned or probable)

I was at Bretton Woods on Thursday 4/13...they're hoping to make it to April 30. BTW, I've never been to a resort on April 13 where every run on the mountain had been groomed. Who grooms every trail in mid April? I've never seen that before, but Bretton Woods must be the grooming capital of...

Wow! Such passion. No other sport on Earth inspires this kind of passion. I love it! I love bumps. And as much as I dislike the "McMountaining" of snow sports, I'm a big fan of seeded bump lines. Best way to learn to ski bumps properly, no question about it. Then again, I love powder...
