Will $ Fast Passes Become Standard?

Lowest price for Snowbird Fast Tracks is $59 for 2025-26. Goes up as high as $89. Tram not included, only the high-speed chairlifts. Looks like dynamic pricing will come into play once the season starts. Prices for Fast Tracks as of mid-October:

Will $ Fast Passes Become Standard?

Has been available at Snowshoe in WV for years. Perhaps started by Intrawest. They sell so few it doesn't make a difference. At least one Snowshoe condo owner who lives in the DC area gets one regularly. The Primo pass add-on not only provides a special access lane for busy lifts, also...

    Working for Snowmaking again.

Will Mammoth bother to open in October 2025?

Same here today, nothing after Snow Ratio. Plus the Snow Level is to the left of Snow Ratio, which is different from the screen shot I did earlier.

Can Snowmaking Compensate for Climate Change?

From another thread The OpenSnow forecasts are pushing out to 15 days now. I'm not convinced it's worth looking at more than 10 days. The options for the graphs are 1, 3, 5, 10, 15 days. When building base, snowmaking in marginal conditions can still be worthwhile. Can create snow whales...

Will Mammoth bother to open in October 2025?

Well, on a Mac laptop with a track pad, it's possible to swipe. In any case, it could be a "work in progress." Essentially beta testing, not quite full production mode yet. I noticed that the summary box with OpenSnow forecasts used to be on the right side of the graph, but now it's on the...

Will Mammoth bother to open in October 2025?

So you can't swipe on the "chips" to make them move? There are a bunch more options between Snow Ratio and Wind Speed. The screen shots I took show the two ends of the list. In general, Forecast Range is so interactive, it's taking a while to figure out what changes on the display. Would...

Can Snowmaking Compensate for Climate Change?

I was staying at Jiminy Peak last week. Hiked to the top and went over to the snowmaking pond. It's really low. Talked to a ski patroller who was out walking with his dog on the slopes. In theory, water can be pumped up from the stream below, but that's running very low too. It's a concern.

Can Snowmaking Compensate for Climate Change?

New Hampshire ski resorts are having to cope with drought conditions as the time approaches that snowmaking should start in earnest. Skiing Arrangements With Spouses/Significant Others

When you make the trek to Bohemia, might as well spend a few days checking out the Michigan independents along the way. I had a very good time at Caberfae and Nub's Nob during a Michigan ski safari using Indy. Also had Ikon so checked out Boyne Mountain and the Highlands for comparison. The...

Will Mammoth bother to open in October 2025?

When not skiing, I only use OpenSnow on my laptop. The Help guide shows the process on the app. I'm playing with Wet Bulb now to see if there is any reason to pay extra to have access later. Not too likely since the friends I'm sharing with aren't the type to care about that level of detail...

Will Mammoth bother to open in October 2025?

Since I have access to the Free Preview for Wet Bulb at the moment, here's what OpenSnow shows for the next two weeks. Dark blue line is the OpenSnow forecast.

    Eastern Molehills and Retro Areas

For an example of what can happen in WV, here's the forecast for Pres. Day week last season. Brad Panovich has been doing video forecasts for SkiSoutheast for years. Doesn't get to ski much in NC, but does take a ski vacation out west at least once a season. Brad is the chief meteorologist at...

Did you ever ski Plattekill on a powder day? Or compare snowfall from a major snowstorm between Plattekill and nearby ski resorts? I finished a ski safari in mid-February with a few hours at Windham (using Ikon) and stayed overnight as close to Plattekill as practical. Snowed overnight...

Can Snowmaking Compensate for Climate Change?

    New England/Northeast Foliage Reports

Just drove back from the Berkshires and a couple days around Albany. This is not a good year for fall colors. Too dry and too warm in recent weeks. Still plenty of people around for the fall festivals held by towns and ski resorts. I was in the Berkshires the same week last year so have a...

Can Snowmaking Compensate for Climate Change?

That attitude about trees has shifted more in recent years under Alterra ownership. Still better tree skiing in the Canaan Valley between Timberline and CV, but there are official glades at Snowshoe now. The Sawmill Glades opened up by 2009 under Intrawest. Intrawest bought Snowshoe from a...

    Eastern Molehills and Retro Areas

West Virginia can get lake effect snow. More likely at the three ski hills in northern WV: Canaan Valley, Timberline, and White Grass (nordic trails). A really big push can mean natural snow NC and TN, but that's pretty rare. The ski resorts are happy enough with cold temps for snowmaking...

    Eastern Molehills and Retro Areas

What's different between myself and @Harvey is that I like to travel, whether driving or flying. If I only cared about powder turns, I wouldn't have bothered with ski safaris in New England, New York, or Michigan in the last decade. Planning to use Indy in the northeast next March, partially...
