    Mountain High, Jan. 23, 2020

I remember the 'good ole days' when I would ride east midweek all by myself when I lived in WW. It's just a shame that they've never been able to get people to go over there and/or give it more attention. Reminded me of this discussion I started way back in 2011 when I lived there...

    2019-20 Race to Open

things are starting to look more promising for a change in the pattern to a stormy west around the end of the month. Wolf Creek looks to get hit this week with up to 2 ft +.

Are there uncrowded ski areas with on-site lodging?

Boise is actually approaching 1 million for the entire statistical area. Still a far cry from Denver/Front Range, but it continues growing rapidly. That could be a plus for in the future if more airlines come in. I've never been to Sun Valley, so can't comment on the drive. However, I know its...

Are there uncrowded ski areas with on-site lodging?

Surprised no one has mentioned Big Sky. Whitefish (as TonyC mentioned) and maybe Fernie could be on the list, but both places will be borderline very busy. I think I did Schweitzer back in 2014 on Presidents weekend, and it was tolerable. Targhee would be fine, but they have somewhat limited...

    Yellowstone Club, 3/25/2001

funny, I was just reading an article about Ashton Kutcher having 2 places up there, and bounced back and forth to a couple other articles. Thanks for the photo TR ~20 yrs later! ;) Some more interesting stats on the place. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... aires.html

Tamarack, Idaho back on the rails...

Thanks, really looking forward to it. I lived in Whitefish for a couple years... enjoyed it and the mountain, but the grey winter muck up that far north was a little too much.

    Mammoth Mountain Snowman on Facebook

I've never been a big fan of Steve (we had some tiffs back in the RSN and early MM forum days), but he's always done a good job in regards to posting info on Mammoth. He used to be more outspoken on conditions and other things Mammoth, but these days... it's quite risky to be...

unfortunately, I believe those SWE maps are going away this year, due to resource constraints, etc. although, that note say's May of 2018, so not sure if that is a typo or if they are not nixing them after all.

Id be interested to know if they still have the same policy on the Kachina lift as when I was there 2 yrs ago.. keep it closed for 2 days after a storm for hikers to enjoy the powder before they open the lift for everyone else to get sloppy 3rds.

Wolf Creek, CO, Mar. 21, 2019

no worries...I still go up there, but barely paid off my season pass this year. Will not be getting another one next year... in fact, we have been considering moving to McCall, Id. I got to ride brundage/tamarack this year and I enjoyed both of them a lot.

Shoulda told me you were coming, I would have at least joined you for a few runs and made you buy me a beer! I hit the Waterfall area a couple weeks ago after a 4 ft storm (and also did Big Dropout), but thankfully the first 2.5 ft was wet and heavy, leaving the top 15" light and fluffy. It...

    Interesting story!

I finally made it to CB a few weeks ago, and absolutely loved it.. as did my wife, a lower intermediate skier. (We went back to Telluride in late January, and I became a little disenchanted with it after myself being so wowed last year. It really does lack good mid to high intermediate terrain...

Wolf Creek first to open for 2018-19

Wolf was decent today. Coverage/conditions were good on the groomers, but variable off piste. the 5 ft in October was great, but no snow this month is obvious. I agree Chris, overall Wolf is flat with only relatively short, steep parts. You really gotta know the mountain to take advantage of...

Wolf Creek first to open for 2018-19

I considered going up this weekend, but I have midweek season pass and they didn't want to honor it for their weekends only operations right now.(I was also had plans on Sat). There were some pretty nice picts floating around FB and the net from Saturday, but a friend of mine went up Sunday and...

Mt. Baldy, CA $150 unrestricted pass

Yep, Baldy is amazing when they have a lot of snow... Was it back in 2004/5, when they got close to 300"? Some of my best days anywhere were that year at Baldy. As I've said before (along with a few others), the fringe areas are toast with the overall climate warming.
