remember this name for turin, italy- dale begg smith

Anyone watch the Gold Cup trial event this weekend? Bloom and Kearney are in. And did you see Mayer?!?!? Fractions of a point behind Bloom. Do you remember how he called Bloom his "media blocker" in 2002. I can see the same thing happeneing in 2006. The media will focus on Bloom and the football...

    Waterville, NH-12-21 - Killington VT, 12-22

Joe and jsul185, My pleasure. I believe the old Tyler bumps are now history and a new, full-length mogul course is being machine made today or tonight. I'm guessing the new bumps, but not the airs, will be open to the public midweek. But that's just a guess. -HDH

    Seeking instructors

Here, here! There's a small bit of good ski instruction in the world -- written and spoken -- and a whole lot of techno-babble. It's not easy to talk accurately and effectively about ski technique. But it's easy to fake, if your audience lets you. BTW, I've seen, in this forum, some good stuff...

Yeah, Dale Begg Smith. But don't forget the Americans! Mayer, Cabral, Roberts and others. Bloom might be distracted by NFL dreams. We'll see how the trials go in Steamboat tomorrow, though. -HDH

Fog and rain at WV today, but the snow was good. The Tyler bump course is still there, Joegm. I hear it'll be mowed after this weekend and replaced with a full length course with two airs. This is in prep for the upcoming mogul contest, I think, Jan 7 or 8(?) Today, after the morning fog...

    Runnin' up to Cannon...

Pouring rain as I drove through the notch today at around 4PM. Brown spots showing on Zoomer and other face trails. And the rain continued for some time. -HDH

Hope you get a decent day. I'm about 6 miles from Cannon. It's not raining like it was an hour ago. But I can hear snow melt dripping from the roof fast and furious. Not sure what the forecast is saying now. -HDH

Might have been nice on Tuesday as Cannon received an honest 7 inches of new snow, and not all that much rain, the day before. But I didn't have the chance to ski it and Franconia saw all kinds of rain today and this evening. -HDH

    Are you centered?

Cannonball and Geoff, ...about using teleskiing or unbuckled boots to work on being centered: I think these two methods are of only limited use. The most common centering problem, by far, is being in the back seat, leaning back into the hill, into the back of the boot. And one CAN lean into the...

Warren Miller "Higher Ground" 56th Year

Saw it. Very cool to see how good a rider Bode Miller's little brother is. Also liked the guy in the flying suit: he wore this suit that made him look like a flying squirrel and he dove from planes and skimmed along the slopes of mountains at unbelievable speeds. Unlike anything I'd ever seen. -H

    What are your plans?

The good thing about learning to jump is that the stuff you need to know to jump well from a small, safe bump on an easy groomer is the same stuff you need to know to jump well from a huge hit or a big drop in the woods. (The three most important things: balance, balance and balance.) So you can...

Jay Peak Web Page Conditions Report: 12/02/05

Most ski condition reporters go to a special school where they've learned to speak a special language. You just have to know their language. A few translations: -Inches of snow are measured like dog years. An inch of snow is called "7 inches of fresh powder" -The phrase "frozen granular"...
