    More Telluride Mismanagement

Chris will love the reporting in this Denver Post story today. Telluride wants to chuck Chuck (just make sure javascript is off and you should be able to read)

    Beer thread

I have a nephew who is actually a "double IPA" lover. That stuff is crazy bitter hoppy tasting. I used to go for certain regular IPAs myself back when I was a micro brew drinker.

    Europe 2025/26

I'm late to any of these Euro threads, but have to say yea, This. For Gen Z if the information is plausible sounding then that is all it takes for it to be true enough for them. Actual hard earned facts and knowledge are almost totally unimportant to them. I can't wait till we get Gen Z...

New Italian regulation: Mandatory use of CE-certified ski helmets

My guides in Europe last year both were wearing Helmets.

    New England/Northeast Foliage Reports

No subsidies required. At some points in the past Elmira had all of the big 3 providing service (Delta, United and AA). Today Elmira has Delta 3x per day on 76 seat CRJ's and also ~4 flight per week on Allegiant flying A320's direct to various places in Florida. Basically it's a fair number of...

Abasin opens for 2025-26 on Oct 26

I guess it doesn't matter if you have sup-par opening day conditions... Thank goodness I'm not there though. It's going to be 70F on the front range today and I'd MUCH rather be biking with no crowds than driving I70 for that!

Abasin opens for 2025-26 on Oct 26

Yeah, the US Ski Team spent a couple million dollars with Copper on the snowmaking system to get the early season speed track. They hold lots of FIS races on it just prior and after the annual World Cups in Beaver Creek. Copper has never been a regular on the World Cup tour but has held a...

Abasin opens for 2025-26 on Oct 26

2 or 3 reasons. 1) World Cup spends late Nov and early Dec in NA. 2) Glacier snow is not the same surface as typical world cup races on man-made and injected snow - they want to be practicing on the surface they primarily will race all season and Europe is usually a bit later getting snowmaking...

    New England/Northeast Foliage Reports

I'll play in this thread in two parts: ~3 weeks ago in the southern tier of NY: Chemung river next to Willow Creek Golf Not a lot, but just starting to really change on the hills... Welcome to Corning, NY Part two is the comparison of East to Non-East foliage. Specifically the front...

Abasin opens for 2025-26 on Oct 26

And that right there is the answer to why ABasin got desperate to announce. I knew Keystone was very close and with WAY more snow. I suspected something might be up once they disabled the Dercum Mtn cam sometime late yesterday. Of course it is still Keystone so the opening trail is quite flat...

    Beer thread

Can't imagine why anyone even bothers with something like that. I rarely drink beer anymore but I would never proactively choose anything in that ballpark; either back when I did drink more beer, nor now. Maybe college kids drinking that stuff? In college you don't care much about the taste...

Abasin opens for 2025-26 on Oct 26

Yes it is true. you and thousands of your best buddies can all slam into each other on the single, much narrower than normal WROD that they will be opening. My personal assessment based on webcams is that this will be by far the thinnest and narrowest opening for Abasin since they installed...

    Patrick's Streak, Ski Travel Priorities

Would you even bring your own gear on such a trip? While it might be interesting for an hour or two at an indoor area, I cant imagine anything but just renting stuff given the enormous hassle factor of your own gear on such a trip. I'm curious if Patrick did take his gear; I just figure that he...

One thing for sure is that if the predictions for the Salt Lake pan out it will be very easy to track how much is lake effect. If the average Alta snowfall drops by 25" (5%) vs 75" (15%) should be very easy to spot in the data. I do recall Alta, Ski Utah, etc... touting lake enhanced snowfall...

Will $ Fast Passes Become Standard?

Would love to see a SSS report forced on Vail by the analysts that follow thier stock. We all know it wouldn't look very good, but it would be very illuminating.

Potentially for not all that much longer though: Great Salt Lake Drying Up/Overuse Similar to when the great lakes freeze over in winter, once the fetch gets too small the lake effect will be over pretty quickly.

Ironically it all started as a requirement for/from the defense department for R&R location. But given the developable land nature and the entire lack of opportunity for development nearly anywhere else in the Wasatch from NIMBY and etc... someone decided to go HUGE with the development. As we...

    East Village at Deer Valley

I looked up a couple of east coast places for comparison. Sunday River claims 10K GPM, Blue Mtn ON claims 14K GPM, and Seven Springs PA claims over 30K GPM in ideal conditions. Shockingly Killington only claims 2.5K GPM! Most ski areas of course don't ever mention GPM and instead talk about...

So the real capacity is 10K GPM. Very large for the western US which is usually in the 2-5K GPM or less range. (The "extra" 5K is actually just pumping half that capacity on the upper part of mountain from the original 10K being pumped uphill from the base). By my counting that is only about 5...
