    Utah February 2025

Gee, I went to Las Vegas for Super Bowl Weekend and all I came home with was the flu (pretty sure that's what it was, I tested neg for covid). It's cut into my skiing over the last week. Not much to post in this thread. I skied with this bunch at Solitude on Feb 13, unknowing that I was...

    American Election 2024

Two recent anecdotes: I was complaining to a friendly, young stranger on a chairlift. It was about the clumsy, chaotic attempt by Trump/Musk/DOGE to streamline the Federal Govt. They are throwing out the baby with the bath water. At the end of my diatribe I said, "yet I voted for the guy...

I know it's not the classically clear photo, but there is something especially atmospheric about this shot> You guys are unbelievable world travelers.

    Utah February 2025

Quote from somebody who was at Snowbasin yesterday 2/14/2025: Fridays have been extra busy but today was ridiculous. Might be the busiest I’ve ever seen it! Quote from a second person at Snowbasin 2/14: Some of the heaviest snow I have ever skied today. Even the rainy days earlier this winter...

    Utah February 2025

A friend and I Skied in 9" of graupel today 7 Feb at Snowbird. Weird stuff, but fun in a surfy sort of way. Avalanche on the Defiance/Tiger tail side of the mtn shut everything down at 3pm.

Park City and Deer Valley look miserable over the holidays

That was a rather pessimistic piece. Fortunately, there was an uplifting ending: "But there is hope... Maybe... the inevitable Boomer die off will ease the housing crunch." :icon-lol:

    Utah February 2025

I'll try to post a few photos and comments in this thread over the next month to give any interested folks a little first hand scoop on how things are going in UT this February. If anyone else is skiing Utah this month and wants to add to the thread, feel free! Feb 1, I skied Solitude on Feb 1...

    Here comes the pineapple

@kingslug if you ever want a geezer's tour of Snowbird let me know. I'll be on that hill quite a bit the rest of the winter. I also ski Solitude and Brighton a fair amount.

    Here comes the pineapple

Solitude, 1 Feb 2025: It actually wasn't as snowy as that photo looks, about 6" new at the time. I think they got another ~6" by Sunday morning. But storm underperformed a bit. More snow coming to Utah starting 5 Feb, perhaps significant amount.

    American Election 2024

Resurrecting this post from the past for it's prescient concern. What is happening now with the Federal employees deferred resignation offer is nuts, reckless, and possibly illegal. Standard procedure for DJT:icon-rolleyes: Disruption "R" Us. I'm waiting to see if the offer is rescinded or...

    LA Fires: Jan 2025

I watched a little bit of FireAid. Didn't recognize Pink. Thought she was quite good. Billy Crystal was very heartfelt.

St. Moritz Trip Starts with Class 3+ Avalanche

Wow. That was a very sobering story from @skiandgolfnut . Glad everyone came out alive. Kind of highlights the differences in risk involved in American vs. European off-piste skiing. No wonder the typical recreational European skier does not seem to be too keen on partaking in casual...

    Gift Article Links

I currently have subscriptions to the WaPo and NYT. The NYT is new to me. When I try to share articles from it they don't seem to work for people I send them to. I guess this thread is explaining why?

    Retirement Road Trips

Probably going silent on here as I drive across the country over the next week. I'll report later on how it went with the polar vortex. Want to ski a few days in CO during the transit, we'll see. 😶‍🌫️ Don't believe I'll be dealing with any heavy snow, unlike my crossings in Jan '23 and Jan '24.

    Age 70 ski free

I went back to Canaan Valley, WV on 10 Jan 2025 for more free skiing. Conditions even better this time. Skied more off the groom, than on. This ski area is never crowded, kind of overshadowed by nearby Timberline Mtn, which is quite a good place to ski. This was probably my last Eastern ski...
