    Saint Foy 3-19-2025

We made our way down the hill to the small resort of Saint Foy Tarantaise. There are only four lifts. The lift ticket was 40 Euro. It’s not a huge place but there is plenty to keep a skier amused for a few days in good conditions. We were two of about 50 people on the entire mountain. Today...

Our bloke mentioned areas of buried rocks in some of the gullies. There were a couple of spots where he stressed that we should ski within 2 metres of his line.

I thought I read about James having to navigate avi debris with his sore hip last year. My mistake.

I’m on 102mm wide Rustler 10s and they are longer than I am. It’s not the skis. Sometimes I am making really nice turns. My skiing is inconsistent. I suspect yesterday’s inconsistent skiing may have been because my legs were a bit fatigued from the day before. I’ve just got to do a bit more of...

One of the other fellows in the group suspects something like that. I dunno. The guide hasn’t lead me astray at any point last year or this year so I’ll go with his recommendation. I’ve never been in a helicopter so if that’s it I’ll be happy.

^That’s Euan the guide. A lovely bloke and tries really hard to show us the best snow and a good time.

Euan the guide said he was still in denial about the turn of the seasons so wanted one last chance to find us some cold winter snow. We headed up the Toviere gondola from Tignes and skied the meadows under the Tommueses lift all the way down to La Daille. There were some patches of lovely soft...

    Tignes 3-17-25

We woke to sunny skies. There was a little bit of snow overnight but nothing significant. I’m doing a course with Snoworks who are a UK based mob. I did a course with them in Tignes last April. There are 5 groups. Two touring groups and three ‘backcountry’ groups. Each group has between 4 and 6...

    Europe 24/25

No. But I have been researching it because we plan to be in Europe in September 2026 for hiking. We’ll spend some time in France (including day hikes from Chamonix) and then catch the Glacier Express train from Zermatt to St Moritz. https://glacierexpress.ch/fr The final week will be in the...

    Europe 24/25

We plan to come back in September 2026 for some hiking to check out mountains without snow. We’ll base in that valley.

^^^^ @ChrisC It was a nice day today. The course starts tomorrow so we just cruised around and skied the pistes and low angle stuff that I could see from the lifts. It snowed about 4 inches in Tignes overnight. We started heading up Chaudanne lift so we could check out the new Marais lift that...

    Beer thread?

The French are finally getting into the micro brew scene. I had a good one last night. This one is very ordinary.

    Beer thread?

I had that Uinta brew when I was most recently in Utah. Sadly I wasn’t in a hot tub at Snowbird while drinking it. Still it was very enjoyable

That is surprising. I hope you correct that fact and check out Zion and Canyonlands and Bruce soon.

I’m in Annecy for the evening. It’s raining here and quite cool so I assume there is some snow falling in the mountains.

    American Election 2024

Wow. Elon funds Trump’s way into the Whitehouse. Trump gives Elon the reins to the nation. Trump uses the office of the presidency to sell Elon’s cars. Seriously. This is truly concerning for the whole world.

    Aspen, CO March 7 to 9, 2025

Snowmass is a great mountain isn’t it? How were crowds in general? Whenever I’ve been there (including holidays) most lifts have been ‘ski on’. The only negative is the difficulty lapping the Hanging Valley. Even The Cirque requires two lifts.
