    Whiteface/Lake Placid

Actually, I guess I do know something about lodging... The Whiteface Lodge has an awesome outdoor hot tub. I went to a conference event there. Room start at $500.00 per night. Poaching this hot tub would be worthwhile...but the place is quite hoity toity...though it is beautiful. Somehow, I...

    Gore Mountain 12/4/10

First day of the season for me. Lotsa new gear and a knee that had a full summer of physical therapy to correct a patella tracking issue that was likely caused by skiing + poor fitting ski boots + flat feet with bunions. All this caused a little anxiety prior to skiing. I picked up my brand new...

    Whiteface/Lake Placid

Dude, I don't know anything about lodging in Lake Placid...I stay with friends. I will say, the skiing at Whiteface on Sunday was excellent. Report here from HighPeaksDrifter http://www.nyskiblog.com/2010/12/whitef ... 12510.html and my pix are here http://forum.nyskiblog.com/Whiteface-12 ...

Telling me not to ski at my lcoal ski area is obnoxious, especially for the web page administrator, regardless of what I believe causes grease on the bottom of my skis at my local hill. I have been a regular contributor here for years. I have written resort features and kept threads going so...

sounds like it would have been a great day for rfarren and his father to beat the 80k vertical, or whatever the record was

Another stellar weekend of spring skiing

If you are in the east and didn't ski this weekend, you really missed out. Gore was fantastic. Two sunny beautiful warm days with perfect corn. Plenty of cover in the trees. Once it softened, we spent most of our time there. Enjoyed skiing with a big group of people, including Harvey44 and met...

OMG, YOU WERE THAT GUY IN THE TANK TOP AND SHORTS?!?!?!?! LOL!!!! of course I saw you. It was not warm enough for that. How long did you last? It was still in the 50s and breezey that day. I skied with Robert on Thursday of the previous week. As for the greasy stuff...I skied all weekend at...

    Greek Peak 3/17/2010

Marc, no way is it just tree sap, pollen or airborne pollutants...it's got to be coming from the old compressors, the groomers and the lift towers, and maybe some from the snowmobiles. This is the first year we had this problem, so I think it is from something at Greek Peak gone awry with the...

    Greek Peak 3/17/2010

It was pretty darn nice out yesterday, so I bailed from work early and hit the slopes at 3pm. Night skiing is over at GP but they are running the lifts until 6pm. Coverage was good in the snowmaking areas. Anything with no snowmaking was unskiable. We did laps on Hercules most of the...

    Greek Peak March 11, 2010

Somewhere around 30 day on lift served and probably about the same of xc ski, maybe more since I ski every day there is snow in my backyard. Since I got back from Utah I skied 28 days (either xc or downhill). The only days I missed were the Fridays that I traveled north and there were only 2 of...

No big vert yesterday...the boys went to Powmow and the north faces were stiff and unfun. That was MY idea, and it was a bad one. I didn't realize that it got so warm since the snow of 3 days ago. We went to Powmow 4 days after the snow and it was stellar. This is the problem with going so late...

    Greek Peak March 11, 2010

After 4 sunny days of skiing warm rotting snow in my backyard I finally had some time to get to Greek Peak to see how the warm weather has worn down all that great snow that fell two weeks prior. I arrived just after 3pm. The snow was so slow and sticky it skied like peanut butter. I took a...

Acidchrist skied at Snowbird yesterday. I wonder how many vert he racked up. Wonder how the boy is feeling and where he'll be rampaging today.

Be sure to get that watch set and let us know how you do. SV is probably THE BEST place to rack up vert, as you got high speed lifts and 3k of fast groomers to work with.

    Whiteface March 6, 2010

Collins may be a shorter ride than the Gondi, but you'd have to ride it 40 times to rack up 80,000 vertical feet...about 7 rides an hour. :bs: You need to reset your watch before you start skiing that day to get an accurate count of vertical each day. If your dad didn't reset his watch, he...
