It was a stunning day in the Parc nationale du Vanoise.
We started over the back of the Aussois ski resort. The ski area primarily faces south. This pic over the back shows it’s only north facing sector.
The cloud burned off quickly.
Marmots and chamois were about.
The bowl we were...
The stop for the next couple of nights is Aussois in the Maurienne valley. We took the Mont Cenis pass. It was cold at the col.
There’s an old fort up the hill from back in the Savoy days.
It’s a nice view from the top.
Wild flowers are coming out.
We went for a tour of the Lanslebourg...
Has anyone driven the A8 motorway between the French Riviera to Genoa? Perhaps the most impressive road from an engineering perspective I’ve seen. It’s all huge bridges and tunnels with virtually no road section on flat land. It must have cost a bomb.

It’s a nice walk up to the village of Eze. About 1300 feet above sea level. Quite hard work in the warm weather.
We’re staying in the port area of Nice. I had no idea the Monaco Grand Prix was this weekend. I’m surprised we found accommodation so cheaply. Self contained for approx $110USD per...
I’m going to make the observation that the firsttracks forum members are not representative of the average American (whatever an average American is).
From what I can tell you are not an average American @jimk
But I agree the stereotypes are way too generalised and unnecessarily nasty.
To avoid incoming Alps rain we have moved south to Gorges du Verdon.
The lavender is just starting to bloom.
We rented a peddle boat on the Verdon Gorge. Went for a walk too. It’s lovely scenery.
The view from our $90usd a night hotel room was nice.
We had the best dinner of...
