    Impressions of Switzerland and Austria

Great pictures, it brings back some memories. I just stopped for a few minutes at the train station in Andermatt. It looked very interesting since it was clearly not as developed as the other locations I visited, but as you said, it's impossible to see the expanse of the area. The one thing that...

NOAA briefing on La Nina - strongest since 1955

How was the 73-74 season for Mammoth? I know a strong La Nina generally means a slow start and early spring for Mammoth, but this year seems so extreme that it may have a larger chance to diverge from historical trends.

Locked anything in for 10-11 yet?

It's probably even doable by myself, but I don't have access to a car on short notice; hence why I'm dependent on someone else. I'd definitely like to make it happen at least once this season if I know Utah will be getting snow and Mammoth won't.

Locked anything in for 10-11 yet?

Well, let me know if you ever want an overeager companion who gets free gas money. i kind of doubt anyone else from my school is crazy enough to drive to SLC.

Les Deux Alpes, France - 2/06

And La Grave is too expensive due to the necessity of hiring a guide.

Les Deux Alpes, France - 2/06

Alpe d'Huez does look more interesting than Les Deux Alpes (as does Serre Chevalier, for that matter), but I won't be able to get to either of those resorts. Chamrousse is farther than Les 7 Laux, and much flatter. I won't be making this decision for a while, but I'm almost thinking that Les 7...

Les Deux Alpes, France - 2/06

This is even older than the La Grave thread that was just dug up, but I'm trying to procrastinate by planning over a year in advance (very important, obviously). For my spring semester in 2012, I expect to do a Swarthmore program in Grenoble \:D/ The university ski club visits the local resort...

    La Grave, 3/6/08

Trains will get to Briancon, but I'm pretty sure there's no stop in La Grave. If accessibility by train is actually important, then Chamonix and Les Arcs are the two largest areas completely accessible by train from Paris.

Locked anything in for 10-11 yet?

When you say you'll let short-term weather forecasts influence when and where you ski, are you referring to driving up to Mammoth at any time during the week, or actually flying (to Jackson, Seattle, etc) for something like a 3 day trip? Also, now that you're money will be worth more than your...

Locked anything in for 10-11 yet?

I'll have a pass at Mammoth (and June) and free tickets at Baldy, so all my time will likely be spent there. First trip I'm locked into is December 9-12 in Mammoth, which will very possibly be marginal, but it's completely free, so why not? I'll probably also head up the opening weekend...

(some ski content) Millcreek Cyn & Wasatch Crest, UT 9/12/10

This hike really shows how incredibly close the ski resorts are to each other!

    Volcano Villarrica CL - 7 Sept 10

Looks like I need to pick my words more carefully! I generally just grab a whole bag of bagels and ask for some cream cheese packets the day before I leave. Then fill up a Nalgene with orange juice, grab a few apples, and you're set on breakfast for a weekend.

    Volcano Villarrica CL - 7 Sept 10

Cost of pass last season (30 days skiing) was $20/day. I get a car from the school for free and they pay for my gas \:D/ Breakfast is generally bagels stolen from dining hall and lunches are Clif Bars and apples that are also included in meal plan. I can either eat out at Whiskey Creek for...

    Volcano Villarrica CL - 7 Sept 10

That seems quite affordable for SA. It's still a large premium over what a college student like me skis for per day: about $50/day for ticket, gas, lodging, food, transportation for Mammoth, or $10/day for Baldy (no lodging).

Then again, if you want to work in Vancouver, going to UBC is probably one of the best choices.

$99 unrestricted season pass at Mt. Baldy, CA

The best deal is to come to the TGR movie showing at Claremont and get a free ticket! Along with that, they're always running some sort of deal. Others would know the details of those better than me.

$99 unrestricted season pass at Mt. Baldy, CA

It's too expensive for me because I have unlimited $10 tickets. Last year, I decided $50 was worth it because I would go at least 5 times in an El Nino year, but I can't imagine going 10 times (and having to deal with limited reservation spaces) during a La Nina year.

$99 unrestricted season pass at Mt. Baldy, CA

Too expensive this year. Due to La Nina, Baldy is more likely to have a bad snow year. Also, for popular weekend days, you sometimes can't get a reservation. Baldy is sure to run discounts throughout the season, too. Finally, if you just come to the TGR movie at the Claremont Colleges, you can...

    Altimeter watch

I don't need a download feature--I was just wondering if you guys thought it was really useful. I'll most likely not even get an altimeter watch, but if I can find one for about $50 (not necessarily new), it could be a possibility.
