    Mammoth Mountain Snowman on Facebook

From a Google search for more info on Mammoth current conditions (before some of the recent valuable posts here), I discovered Mammoth Mountain Snowman on Facebook. It's a private FB group administrated by Mammoth Snowman (Steve Taylor) and his kids. They seem to grant requests to join in a day...

Thanks. Maybe I'll skip Squaw. I'm coming from LA, so Mammoth is closer.

Was there a lot of 4/20 action on the mountain? I remember seeing a fair amount of it up there on regular days before it was legal, so I'm guessing legal and 4/20 would be a hazy combination for Mt. Baldy.

Nice report, tseeb. I had to chuckle at your friend salvaging some skis from a dumpster when he forgot his own. I left my skis at a friend's house north of Salt Lake City back in January and didn't realize it until I had gotten all the way up to Alta. It was a storm day, and the road was closed...

I figured as much, Marc_C; still couldn't resist needling you on that one.

Nice pics; looks like you scored some decent late winter powder. I agree with your point about not wasting ski time by stopping to eat and/or drink. Since a lot of areas are open from 9-4 (only 7 hours), it's best to maximize the time spent actually skiing, especially considering how much time...

BTW, has anyone gotten a "This page isn't working Chrome detected unusual code on this page and blocked it to protect your personal information (for example, passwords, phone numbers, and credit cards). Try visiting the site's homepage. ERR_BLOCKED_BY_XSS_AUDITOR" I've gotten it randomly on 2...

I agree with Tony. We don't have quite the same participation here on FTO as we did a few years back, but it's still a good place to come for honest trip reports with valuable information (with the possible exception of Marc_C's mention of xxxxxxxxxxx, xxxxxxxxxxx, and xxxxxxxxxxxx as late day...

I agree with jojo; nice pics, both of you, and that entry to Kachina is weird. Maybe they're trying to make it just a little bit difficult as a nod to the effort required to ski Kachina before they installed the lift?

    LCC Overcrowding

Given UDOT's stats, the fact that most of that increased traffic was heading for the slopes of Snowbird and/or Alta, and given the prevalence of high speed lifts at both areas, it's hard to find a reason to believe that the powder is not getting skied off faster. Of course, you still may find...

    LCC Overcrowding

Marc_C and Tony. Haven't you both found that powder days in LCC are a lot harder to get to and get skied off a lot faster than they did even 2 years ago? Kind of disheartening to spend hours getting up there, only to find the powder skied off within an hour. Then there is the crawl back home...

Yes, we enjoyed Arroyo Seco. We went to Aceq, as well as to Abe's Cocina (decent burritos, only open for breakfast and lunch), and Sol Food Market & Cafe (very good sandwiches). I only did one run on Kachina; it had quite a few moguls my first day, and was only open briefly the 2nd day (and I...

    LCC Overcrowding

I guess it wasn't just my imagination. This article talks about the large increase in traffic in little Cottonwood Canyon this year. UDOT's solution is basically carpooling. That won't help with the increasingly crowded slopes, nor with the result of those crowds: the ever-shortening half-life...

Since Wednesday had gotten a little warm on the mountain, I took Thursday off, waiting to see what the Thursday/Friday storm would bring. Taos reported 3 inches Friday morning, although there was probably twice that farther up. It snowed most of the day on Friday as well. Dave, my ski partner on...

This was my first time going to Taos. Jojo Obrien noted in a trip report back in 2016 that Taos was like "Mt. Baldy on steroids". I concur with that description. There is a lot of interesting terrain, much of it steeper than I'm interested in skiing, although I found plenty that I liked. Taos...
