Utah Skier Days 2025-26 Decline Worse Than Colorado: Plummet 26%

I would be firmly in the AltaBird camp. As it is, with Ikon about half my days include time at both areas. Formerly an AltaBird pass was about 150% of a single area pass. Due to the spat over parking/reservations/traffic you now have to buy the season passes separately. Living there, jimk is...

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

I finally got Heavenly and Kirkwood. So 2025-26 Season Summary is here. Link fixed 6/12.

    Patrick's Streak, Ski Travel Priorities

(n)(n)(n) Definitely the worst place to post ski content. Good luck tracking it down after few months, much less seasons later. You need to figure it out. Wasn't Patrick the one back when EpicSki Forum shut down who said you should control your own content? I don't demand TRs all be posted...

    Ski-Air Travel

Sbooker and Kylie are both well into the above average range of travelers in terms of how much sleep they can get on long haul flights. That depends upon your level of determination. :icon-lol: Liz does not sleep well at all on planes but is a hard core travel junkie and sucks it up. I...

    Patrick's Streak, Ski Travel Priorities

I say that Patrick's definition of a ski day is "on snow" is not unreasonable. So yes indoor is legit for counting a ski day or a ski area. But when it come to a monthly ski streak, it's obvious that many people could routinely ski June-October indoors, which defeats the whole challenge...

    Europe 2025/26

We did not ski Gaislachkogl freeride in March 2022 because we were surveying the whole area on day one and not there during the late morning timing that would be appropriate for the east facing chutes. But the #1 piste was very well maintained packed powder early in the morning and most of it...

Sainte Foy, France: February 4, 2026 PM

I read the Powderhounds review, and it definitely looks worth checking out. Scale seems on the order of La Rosiere/La Thuile, and it's on the way into either the Tarantaise or Maurienne. Altitude range is middling, like Sybelles across the Maurienne. So I'd want to be there in above average...

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

With addition of Park City data this morning, I am only missing Heavenly, Kirkwood and Mt. Fidelity in Canada's Glacier NP. Due to change in procedures this year, I will not get the latter numbers until at least mid-July. Hopefully that's a one shot occurrence.

IIRC James takes a harder line on indoor skiing than I do.

    2025-26 Season Recap

@jamesdeluxe , do I have new areas starred correctly? @ChrisC , I need your new areas for 2025-26. Would that be just the 4 in Gstaad?

    Patrick's Streak, Ski Travel Priorities

I see a silver lining here. With the climate demise of late summer Timberline, Big Snow New Jersey has become the only choice for lift served in North America in September, and this year August as well. Plus New Jersey is an easy last minute escape for Octobers that don't work out weather...

Is Mt. Waterman Circling the Drain?

An L.A. Times writer hiked past Mt. Waterman to Buckhorn Campground in May 2026 to inspect the extensive road damage. There is no ETA for reopening Angeles Crest Hwy. However the writer observed repair crews working in three locations before Mt. Waterman, where she passed by with this...

Sbooker Scenic Hiking in the Alps, May/June 2026

We passed though the Maurienne Valley in Jan/Feb 2023, but skied the two areas at the far west end. That trip started with sbooker and family in Les Arcs, and the next day was at Valloire/Valmeinier. Aussois is south facing. La Norma like most of these places, rises to 2,700 meters, though...

Colorado Skier Days 2025-26: Collapse 24%, Lowest Since 1991-92

We will never know since A-Basin is part of Alterra now. 75% is a big number. The only example I know about is Washington State in 2004-05, when the Tropical Punch rain and ensuing dry spell closed most areas completely from late January through late March. I already posted A-Basin's percent...

Vail Resorts shareholders are upset. Has Vail ruined skiing?

That's what former admin tried to do here on FTO. The News drove most of his traffic, but it took him 3-5 hours per day to do it, and he finally burned out.

Colorado Skier Days 2025-26: Collapse 24%, Lowest Since 1991-92

Very big at Mammoth; my son Adam was in them from 2003-2015. It will be interesting to see how much Epic Pass sales decline after a season like the past one. The effect may be modest but there will be one.

Colorado Skier Days 2025-26: Collapse 24%, Lowest Since 1991-92

The vast majority of destination skiers do. We are highly unrepresentative here. But recall that in one of the travel plan threads EMSC said 95% of his ski days including location are determined by October. An even in my case Iron Blosam Week is fixed before the season starts and usually cat...

Sbooker Scenic Hiking in the Alps, May/June 2026

That was my impression. I had a delightful Mediterranean cruise plus a few days in Rome in this exact time frame in 2004.

Sainte Foy, France: February 4, 2026 PM

Ski resorts are usually in regional context. St. Foy is in a tough neighborhood in that regard, arguably the most competitive ski region in the world. And not only the famous places, as it's also far short of La Rosiere/La Thuile.
