Reminiscing About Early Days of TV

Slightly off-topic TV story: My college years were 1972-76. I had a partial scholarship (track) at the Univ of Maryland and got free room and board, but had to pay for tuition. To show you how cheap college was then and how expensive TVs were: one time my Dad negotiated with me over what he...

    Beer thread?

Snowbird gives you a free night in the Cliff Lodge when you renew your season pass. Previously the free night had to be taken in the Fall before ski season. I'm not in Utah then. But this year they allowed you to take it starting May 1st, so I jumped on it. Took my wife for a fun little...

Reminiscing About Early Days of TV

Yeah, I was a little old for Brady Bunch too. My favorite TV shows from the '60s were Star Trek, The Wild, Wild, West, and Twilight Zone. I was guilty of watching Batman too.:eusa-hand:

    Beer thread?

3 May 2025 from the hot tub at the Cliff Lodge, Snowbird UT. Outlaw is a cheap, light beer from Denver. Works for me;) It was quite warm earlier in the day, making proper hydration most important.

    Ireland Hiking

Lovely photos. Post more! My ancestors on both sides were Irish. My Dad really cherished his Irish roots I know I'd love to visit Ireland, but I've always had other higher travel priorities (mostly relating to ski slopes or tropical climes). Time is beginning to run short for my...

Western US snowpack info for 2025

Here's an article of possible interest to Tony C and other snowpack sleuths. https://www.deseret.com/utah/2025/04/26/utah-ended-up-with-a-near-normal-snowpack/ Basically, it says much of the west was a bit below normal, with a few areas slightly above and SW below: Oregon: 20.3 inches (122% of...

I was up there today with four friends. Enjoying the small April crowds. Snow stayed pretty fast even though a bit slushy by time I quite around 1pm. Eagle sixpack: One friend is a fine telemarker and Soli is his home mtn:

Utah - April and May 2025

April 2025 continued to be a very excellent month for skiing in the Wasatch Mtns. It's also been quiet to very quiet. There was a great string of spring ski days in the second week. This is my lunch time view from the porch of the mid-mtn Roundhouse Restaurant at Solitude on 9 Apr 2025. Good...

    Beer thread?

Last month I made a trip from SLC to Sandpoint, ID to ski at Schweitzer Mtn (beautiful). On the return drive I went through Missoula, MT. A friend recommended a beer called Bayern (German style lagers) from a small brewery in Missoula. I went to a supermarket there and got the beer guy to help...

Of course you guys only see the active, fun side of Jim. There's also the sore back, cross-eyed, aching feet, burning thighs, grumpy side of Jim. I don't post too many reports on that :icon-lol: Here's another aid that I find therapeutic in my old age:

Utah - April and May 2025

Apr 6, 2025 was a special day for me. After ten years of skiing Snowbird fairly regularly I climbed Baldy from the Snowbird side for the first time ever. Better late than never. A view of Mt Baldy from Snowbird. Our goal was to climb it and then ski down Main Chute on the backside and into...

Utah - April and May 2025

It all depends on air temp. Today I skied it from 11-1230pm and it was great. On a milder April day you gotta get out of there about noon or earlier. Today is was only about 40 degs up there, but with gorgeous sunshine. Primo day.

Utah - April and May 2025

Apr 1-5, 2025 in the Wasatch has been wonderful. Winter came back with 20" new, powdery snow at many resorts on Apr 1, then there was 2-6" more the next two days. It's been one of my favorite stretches this winter, and best of all - low crowds the whole time, even today a Saturday at Snowbird...
