Will be at Crystal Mountain Mar 29-Apr 2

Crystal had a little brown out yesterday but was full powered today. If you wanted to ski in the continental US the last few days you could only have done worse (see Alta). There has been nonstop precipitation with generally low snow levels since I got back two weeks ago.

    Alta, UT 4/1/12

It is my friend Russell's Prius. Yellow leather seats too.

    big sky 3/8/12

Competition for the steeps at Big Sky/Moonlight is limited by small tram size (15 passengers) and sign out requirements (Big Coulior, North Summit Snowfield) and hairball ridge hike (Headwaters). Also, people who have new skis may pass on some of the terrain.

The "walk" to Three Forks is sketchy in places. Stepped carefully/ there were always steps but they were icy in places. Bring a pack an put your skis on the right side so they don't catch on the rock. The trickiest spot is made easier by the presence of a metal mesh that you can grab onto...

    First night in Bend

Thanks! No Supreme runs, please. Actually have hung it up for UT this winter. Presently back in Revelstoke to do a hut tour (though it was a tough call - Whistler is going to get hammered this week). Skied Kicking Horse today, which is no longer the best resort that I have never skied at...

    big sky 3/8/12

Skied BSIA yesterday. Finally got to ski Big Couloir and North Summit Snowfield. Supplemented with 3 runs down Marx and one Three Forks. Smooth edgeable windpack and nice temps = great day!

Have a great trip Marc. Storm here fizzled. You will not be missing much.

Biggest crowd I have seen in Utah since George W. Bush did the book signing at the CostCo. Oh wait, I didn't go to that.

    Schweitzer or Wolf Creek

But March is Colorado's snowiest month. And the Pac NW has more variable surface conditions. And a trip to Wolf Creek could be coupled with Silverton (terrain matched only by Crested Butte or Telluride in Colorado) or Durango MR (terrain quality equal to Schweitzer). Finally, Colorado is more...

Skied both. Not sure either place belongs on a bucket list.

    Alta 2/21 and 2/22

Saw that from the avy report. Despite that, conditions were great again today. Backside and Ballroom opened and were smooth and soft. Took my first laps at the Bird in the afternoon. Also great. There were more people out. The backcountry can wait I guess. I just toured for 14 straight...

    Alta 2/21 and 2/22

Not that you will be happy to hear this, but today skied great. The graupel put a thick creamy coat on top of all that fell earlier in the week. The wind scrubbed away the moguls. The road closure kept the crowd away.

    Alta 2/21 and 2/22

Yesterday was like Alpental on Monday. An icing event at midday sent most of us to the lockers. Today was much more fun. Wind buff on the West Rustler face and Gunsight with good vis. I assume y'all know what this place looks like and that I can post without pics.

    The new skis finally arrived!

The new heel rise adjustment is much slicker. Compared with the Fritschis you were riding, your Dynafits are lighter, more torsionally rigid, and the front pivot is better placed (too far forward on the older Fritschi). I have friends who ride the resort on Dynafits. I use the Baron. Toured...

    Mt Bachelor: Another 24" overnight

I may try to get there tomorrow or Saturday in time to wait in line. I am sure the Utahns will be rabid for powder.

    Big White, B.C. Jan. 16, 2012

Was up at Revy from Saturday to Tuesday. Great coverage (70" base seems more than adequate) and new powder but by the time we left on Tuesday it was so cold that the temperature in C was about what it was in F. There was a last minute special for Mustang for the 17-20 which I would have...
