    Mt Bachelor: Another 24" overnight

The Wasatch Weather Weenie called the snow from today's Alta storm "Cascade Concrete". And I am sure that they are happy to have gotten it.

I certainly hope so. Have been waiting for the "moment", though travel to Utah may be difficult given all the snow Seattle is getting.

By the way, the last day at Alyeska was stellar (9" of low density fluff, could not feel the bottom). Getting to the airport was hell (stood up by Checker Cab, don't ever use them. Had to thumb it). Was tired when I got back but low maintenance girlfriend wanted to go the Revelstoke so I sat...

As a former inhabitant of SLC (1999-2007) and current inhabitant of Seattle (2007-present) I would like to weigh in. Salt Lake is the best ski city in the country. I think Seattle may be number two. Alpental (steeps) is 1 hour, Crystal (terrain) is 2, Baker (snow quantity) is 3, and Whistler...

    Chugach Powder Guides 1/7

Not so bad. I live in Seattle so Baker and Alpental are close and have $50 and $60 lift tickets. I have a Whistler edge card and the Chateau Whistler was $124 a night at Thangsgiving (only $30 to park!). Revelstoke in December was a longer drive but again discounted (luxury hotel at base and...

    Alyeska AK 1/11/12

Yesterday was a blow down so I skinned up to Max's Face twice. Got about 8" of very windblown dense new snow. Today was a "country club" morning as the roads to Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula were closed until around noon. No lines anywhere/ still the 18" got tracked out fast. North...

SLC Resort Recomendations for MLK Weekend

This just in from SLC/NOAA ALTHOUGH THERE IS DISAGREEMENT AS FAR AS DETAILS GO...THE GEM...GFS...AND EC ALL SUGGEST A PATTERN SHIFT EARLY NEXT WEEK. Sure you are grasping at anything by now. If it makes you feel better, Alyeska is closed today.

    Alta, UT 1/8/12

Should we be using the same grading system for Utah and southern CA? Seems to me we should be grading on a curve. From here (still in Girdwood) I would probably have to score last weekend as an Alta "D".

Ahhh! This back and forth surely means the season has finally started.

    Chugach Powder Guides 1/7

The cold temps eased up a bit today and with 21" of storm snow in the cat skiing area the skiing was perfect. In fact, the guides, who are probably instructed to say this to every group, said it was the best skiing they had ever had out there. They may be telling the truth. It was the sort of...

    Alyeska this week

First off, I get why I see ads for goggles and avy beacons when I am surfing this forum, but what was with the Ukrainian dating streamer? Is it just me? Am I mail order bride material? It has been a cold week in AK. Single digit cold. With that old has come gradually firmer snow conditions...

    Whistler, 12/31-1/3

    1. But if Blackcomb gets its alpine open before Whistler, then it is the better choice. 2. Not sure there are any "secret stashes" at Blackcomb, just stuff that is a long slog into or out of relative to the number of good turns (Admin).

And I see from your TGR posting that today was not good. Keep those ligaments. They come in handy.

You go by Skeeze on TGR Forum I see.

    Whistler, 12/31-1/3

Hope so. With the high freezing levels you will want to be in the alpine. Unfortunately, the alpine will be closed. That will leave Red and Emerald as your best options at Whistler and Jersey Cream and Crystal as your best Blackcomb options. The best skiing will be the day after the storm...

    advice for Colorado

The 25% of Discovery that is closed is the very interesting terrain. The 75% that is open is flattish and served by slow chairs. They need more snow.
