    Tool for Edge Sharpening

http://www.reliableracing.com/winterspo ... egory=2000 I have one of these (except it says "Toko" on it). It has worked well for me. I believe mine actually goes from 0 degrees to 5, rather than the 1 to 5 as stated in the blurb. Most of my skis get a 0.5 degree base bevel and a 3 degree side...

    Major Winter Storm Details

Hyrdology report: 1100 AM EST FRI FEB 11 2005 SMUGGLERS NOTCH JAY PEAK 28 9 9 MDT SNOW 16.0 31 High temp (24 hours) of 28 degrees, low of 9, currently 9. 16.0 of new, 31 on the ground. Far cry from 24"-28", but then again this is measured at the base.

    Major Winter Storm Details

Morning report is 24"-28" I suppose it's possible they'll pick up another 6" before it's all over. The Jay Cloud will probably be in operation over the weekend too. Other notable totals: Sunday River is reporting 25"-30" and heavy snow continuing. Sugarloaf reporting 24"-28" with reports of...

Best place to go skiing mid-June 2005???

Lift served? PNW: Mt. Hood, Blackcomb. Probably too early for southern hemisphere, equivalent to November here... IIRC you wouldn't be allowed to ski the snowfields on Mt. Jacques Cartier in the Gaspe at that time of year because of the protection measures for the caribou herd.

    Suggestions on intermediate skis

If you only ski 1 week a year it's best to rent. Pay the extra money for "performance" rentals, as the generic fleet skis are generally pretty low-end. Should you decide to ski a couple weeks a year, the best equipment investment you can make is boots.

    Sugarloaf, ME - 2/5/05

Sunny. Warm. Crowded. Except for temperature the skiing has been about the same for two weeks. The moguls are bigger and there is more junk showing in their troughs, but otherwise it's more of the same...

    Another rookie question. Skill classificaiton?

I hate how Volkl changes the names of their Vertigo series skis EVERY SINGLE FREAKIN' YEAR. 724EXS is about the same as the 724AX2 which would be about the same as the Vertigo G21, the Vertigo G20 and the Vertigo G2... 5 names for the same ski in 5 years... The EXT is much softer and is...

    Living down under

As I understand it, PSIA Level 1 doesn't mean jack outside of the US. Get your Level II as fast as you can. Adding additional certs like Nordic Downhill will help add to your "value."

Hmmm... So Marc, what does that make our Explosivs, Porsche Cayennes?

    Another rookie question. Skill classificaiton?

It'll be fine *IN THE APPROPRIATE LENGTH* for your weight and ability. I'm about a 9 on a good day ( <spinaltap> This one goes to eleven. </spinaltap> ) and weigh 145. For the 5-star I wouldn't get longer than a 175 for myself, and a 170 is probably closer to ideal. Unfortunatley Volkl's...

    snowboard boot liners

Take a look at "touring" telemark boots. The shell is a softer plastic that you can flex from side to side a bit. Vibram sole and they'll take some crampons too (needs a wide toe wire). Just grind down the duck-bill with a belt sander or a dremel... Actually, I have some Garmot Estremo boots...

Frazier Basin, MT. North Bridgers. 1/17/05

That is one sweet line, though I think I like the line lookers left of the summit better -- less stuff to hit and no cliffs to be swept over.

    snowboard boot liners

Intuition thermoformable liners. I use 'em in everything. There are two types - there are older ones made from a softish foam, and newer ones made from a much stiffer foam. Sounds like you want the stiff ones. Quite often they show up on Ebay for about $25. Best money I ever spent on my...

Did only 6 people in the forum ski this weekend?

Hardly worth writing about: Beautiful sunny but cold day at Sugarloaf, 1" snow from the storm. Groomers in good shape, everything else sucks. Please send snow.

    17" at Big Rock

17" on no base is a BAD thing. Had some very nice turns in some awesome light and fluffy powder, but I had to fix 4 core shots when I got home. LobsterTeleGrrl was on my powder skis and she kept poaching my lines! Fortunately she left enough space to the sides to let me spoon her turns, so...

more good things for Jay .

Yikes. Good thing it wasn't the freezer, at least in the tram cabins you're a bit sheltered from the wind, and you can move around to keep warm.

The Uncertainty With the Storm is Reaching New Levels

I gather you've seen the 18Z ETA then... And the 18Z GFS has really come north from earlier runs. I can't wait to see the 0Z runs.

    17" at Big Rock

17" of light 'n' dry at Pres'que Isle Maine last night and today. That should fully open Big Rock. I'm thinking of heading up there Saturday.
