    Who is open?

Apparently Mt. Snow opens today. They had been scheduled for opening yesterday and it was changed to today a few days ago. Both times they said "weather permitting" but the odd thing is that the weather was unambiguously permitting the Wed (or earlier) opening even before they delayed it. Guess...

    Killington re-opening?

Ironic that the big question was whether or not conditions would be favorable for them to open on their target date...and it turned out they were but they aren't! Whatever, soon come (I couldn'ta gone this weekend anyway).

    Killington re-opening?

Got that right, but at this point it's likely not a question of one or the other. I too would trade a Thanksgiving opening for a Memorial Day+ closing in a heartbeat, but I don't think they'd come through on the deal.

Killington, VT 10/29/2005 - Opening Day

I've seen temps as low as the 20s and even mt. flurries forecasted for tonite, not that the guns are gonna fire thru that window or anything but at least it's a good sign. Next coupla days look generally mild but forecasted temps do at least head back downward come Sunday (exactly how far is...

Killington VT 10/30/2005 - Closing Day

Definitely the best opening day in memory. I'm sure Kmart would've rather not opened but was sorta shamed into it by the fact everyone knew they had 30"+ of snow and Wildcat beat them to opening. Still, I give them credit for getting virtually the entire K basin open (not that it was tough given...

Plenty of snow and skiers, zero commitment.

Storm may allow Killington to open early

But passholders *ARE* paying customers (midweek and weekend) !!!!

    Kmart VT 10/1/05

Just going to pick and choose a few points for response from recent posts: >>>I did not object to the "fringe of season" discussion. The topic which I thought had been exhausted was the "replacement of Killington double by K-1 gondola" debate.<<< OK, fair enuff. The replacement you mention is...

    Kmart VT 10/1/05

I didn't say they necessarily could've stayed open but the reports of high elevation temps that I've seen suggest it would've been possible to make snow for the last two nights, which is all it took back then. Borderline, but plausible. The mandate for many years was simply to offer skiing as...

    Kmart VT 10/1/05

No no just kidding, wasn't there today!! Sorry for the "what the???" moment, just couldn't resist a passing note that this would very likely have been an Oct 1 opening back in the good ol' days (not all that long ago, really). After a couple of freezing nights such as we've just had the faithful...

    6/2/05 Kmart Kurtain Kall

FWIW, which ain't much ski-wise at present, the above referenced K Ski Club webcam is back up. It's still aimed at lower Superstar which of course is all grass now, but I suppose it's still useful for checking the "conditions" on the skateboard park that now occupies the base area of the former...

    6/2/05 Kmart Kurtain Kall

I will, LG! Just a final postscript. Noticed that the above-mentioned Basin Ski shop put up a pic of Superstar on 6/17, only 8 days after the pic at the (also above mentioned) Kmart webcam shot. The 6/9 pic (apparently the K ski club's last dispatch) shows a broken but still good-sized patch on...

    6/2/05 Kmart Kurtain Kall

Just a quick followup. Had hoped to get up to the Kmart patch this week but it didn't work out, partly because afternoon thunderstorms from the near 90 heat almost every day threatened to make 4 hours of driving moot. The snow that held on so well for a couple of weeks past closing is surely...

    6/2/05 Kmart Kurtain Kall

Hiked up today, a couple of laps on the "footwall", which is holding up beautifully, all the way up to just above the lip at the top. The dogleg to skiers left is a little more pronounced but the connection is still wide and thick. The headwall at the top is still large but the flatter middle...

    Killington, VT: 05/29/05

Thanks, good to know! I wanted to get up there this past week but weather was pretty bad throughout. I called the Basin Ski Shop on Fri to get a visual report and they said that the top and bottom looked good but the middle was broken, which you've confirmed. Sounds like turns will still be...

Airplane, East Snowfields, Hillmans - 5/21/2005

Nice pix! Looks like you pretty much ran the gamut of weather there in one day (not unusual up there, natch).

I'm saying it's apples and oranges. Sure, some people may choose to trade same but you were stating it as a given, not a personal call, by calling it "hypocritical" not to think of it that way. Anyway, the main point was what followed.
