Vail Pulls Plug on Epicski Forum

Another company paid a consulting company to convert from Huddler. Took a long time. Afterwards the consultant never wanted to deal with Huddler stuff again, for any amount of money. Huddler was the wrong type of software and database for what EpicSki was at the time the partnership was...

Wachusett, Hunter, Snow and Skier Visits

How about Cannon and Loon? Or Stowe and Smuggs? Massanutten, Wintergreen, and Bryce are pretty close together in northern VA. Fair to say that not only are snow totals often different during the rare snowstorm, wet bulb conditions can vary enough that Bryce can make snow when Massanutten...

Vail Pulls Plug on Epicski Forum

Yes and no. Wayback only has the first few pages for threads. Meaning if a thread was long, most likely most of the content was lost.

Unclaimed Baggage has an annual in-person warehouse sale for snowsports stuff in early November. Been going on for over 40 years. :)

Yep, AA even built a terminal. Then took years before AA was willing to sell it to the RDU Airport after it stopped being an AA hub. AA decided Charlotte was of more interest as a hub. I've been living in the NC Triangle since 1972. Back then RDU had one small building with 4 gates. Quite a...

    With $100k annual travel budget...

I met a couple from DC having a good time as early retirees. Both worked for the Federal government. Older spouse retired and slightly younger one just quit. DC is still home, but they sold the house. They have been traveling around with a fully packed SUV from place to place. Usually...

Fall colors in the northeast is the best. More red maple. That's where I would want to be in Sep-Nov. :)

Yes and no. Will probably stick with SW for a while since I have accumulated FF points using a SW VISA for ski trip expenses. From RDU, there are few non-stop flights to the airports I prefer for my trips out west. However, more likely to check alternatives for future reference. Much will...

    Ski-Air Travel

Ever run across a route where the price of a plane ticket for a solo traveler is higher than the per person price for 2+ travelers? I can't tell from this article if having that sort of price differential is more likely during the summer when there are more families or small groups traveling...

    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

Fun read. Laughed at "A view of the Main Base Village. It was only built in the 90s and therefore has absolutely no history, but it's still somehow beautiful to look at." Have read a few trip reports by Australians who end up in the northeast for other reasons during ski season. They are more...

    Homeless/Unhoused Workers in Ski Towns

While quite a few of the larger destination resorts in the Rockies have built, are building, or plan to build housing for employees, you don't hear about that idea as much in the east. Taos Ski Valley bought the three motel-style lodges a couple miles from the base as employee housing. The...

Lake, River, or Ocean Views From Ski Areas

Quite a collection! Got my first lake view in Idaho from the top of Tamarack.

Sounds similar to the Delta AMEX card. I just got one for a trip to Switzerland (not skiing). Plus with Southwest becoming more like a standard major airline, I might start considering the Delta non-stop flight from my home airport to SLC.

Vail Resorts shareholders are upset. Has Vail ruined skiing?

Question for those who ski Tahoe. Is there a noticeable difference in lift lines Fri, Sat, Sun between Ikon and Epic resorts? I haven't skied Tahoe mid-season since 2010. I have some sense of the differences between the Epic and Ikon resorts in terms of lift lines or crowded groomers in...

Young Males Keep Falling From Chairlifts Out West

A center pole double is better than riding solo on a triple with no safety bar. There are three of them at Brian Head. The one that serves mostly black terrain is relatively long and gets reasonably high. I rode up behind a chair with a big guy sitting in the middle with a hand firmly gripped...

Article with basic info about how Air Tags can be useful for traveling. I've been using two lately. One that is in my backpack and another in checked luggage. Have been using one AirTag long enough that I got the Low Battery warning. March 19, 2025...

Big White, BC. February 10-11, and Apex Mtn, BC. Feb.13-14, 2025

Agree. I use a small Dakine 6.5L backpack at times at a mountain big enough to have multiple on-mountain places to stop for a break or lunch. Can't remember when, but I was asked to take off a strap somewhere. That was a surprise. In that case, it depended on the liftie.

Big White, BC. February 10-11, and Apex Mtn, BC. Feb.13-14, 2025

Correct, Wildcat at Alta has no safety bar. It mostly serves black terrain, with a couple of blue routes when unloading going straight to the cat track that leads to Aggie's Alley. The old center pole double that was Cecret served beginner trails and had no safety bar. When Supreme became a...
