    Snow Cover Web Site

Gotta love the single dot over the Mount Washington area currently... Cool site. Thanks!

    Off-season ski area pics

Great shot, Porter! Here's the upper trails at Loon from the condos across the street. Loon is a tricky mountain to get a good pic of the entire trail layout. Perhaps from the Osseo Trail on Whaleback Mountain?

    Off-season ski area pics

Figured I'd give the attachment mod a try. I love taking pics of ski areas in the off season when I see one hiking. Attached is a nice shot of a little hill in NW CT, Mohawk Mountain I took last Friday. Post your snowless ski area pics in this thread!

    Manmade Mogul Fields

Sunapee just responded to the challenge on my site and indicated they've been seeding bumps for 6 years. I think I recall reading somewhere that Waschusett also seeds bump runs. Let's list all areas that we know of that does this. I believe Catamount does it on their Catamount trail down by the...

Congrats on the restore! Now you have the best of both worlds: the ability to search the archives and a new BBS system to move forward with.

You got it. Again, if anyone has questions, feel free to ask. I know this software inside and out...

    Manmade Mogul Fields

Likewise. I'll be at Loon for a week in March. The bumps they set up on Sunset are sweet too! I agree with much of your posts, especially the point about seeded inmediate bump runs preserving the advanced bump runs. Jiminy Peak is going to have some seeded runs as well as Windham in New York. I...

I hear ya, Patrick. Another popular NE-hiking forum, Views from the Top, had a few crashes during the past year or so, resulting in a complete loss of data. The same thing happened to EpicSki and AC (Epic's admin) went to a similar forum software as this (vBulletin). Both of those forums are now...

    Not-so-obvious phpBB Features

As a long time phpBB user, I figured I'd post some hints in this thread to help you get the most out of the new software:If you're interested in receiving an Email notice when someone replies to a thread that you've posted in, go to your Profile and set "Always notify me of replies" to...

    Manmade Mogul Fields

I posted this already on Epic, but I figured I'd helped jump start things on the new board. Anyways, a number of Northeast resorts are going to be setting up manmade mogul fields this season. Loon created them on a number of blue runs last year and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Often times, bumps...

    Back to buissness

It's been a great summer. Been very busy with the family and spent some time in New Hampshire as well as the Cape. I got some hiking in and also helped coordinate and participate in the Flags on the 48 event again this year: http://www.flagsonthe48.org/

    Jiminy Peak Eliminates Glades

I ski Jiminy a few times each season and rarely do I see the Riptide and Willie's Gulch glades open. I can see why the mountain would axe them in favor of more intermediate terrain. Probably not a favorable decision among the more "hard core" skiers, but I don't think that's the type of...

Congrats on getting things running again, Marc. Consider the crash a blessing in disguise in that you may not have switched to phpBB otherwise. I think your members are going to really enjoy the new software after they get used to it. We've been using phpBB since 2001 (version 1.4) and it's been...

    Sugarloaf/USA, ME 4/24/2004

Thanks Marc. My first visit to da Loaf was for Reggae Fest this year. I absolutely love the mountain. They must have lost a lot of terrain over Reggae and early last week, but I did notice the upper trails like Skidder had a lot of cover still. The base area was thinning out quick though. One of...

    Sugarloaf ME 4/09 - 4/11 2004

I Emailed Kevin last week and he provided some great detail on the conditions. I did far more skiing than Reggae-Festing, and I had a great time overall. I think the rain last week hurt them a bit as compared to what was there Easter weekend. Some crossovers were hurting as were the base areas...

Loon mtn, month of feb and 3/3 3/4

Moguls created by skier traffic are a lot different that the ones in the above pics, especially on intermediate terrain. Beginner skier traffic usually leads to erraticaly spaced bumps. Loons's great intermediate bump runs were created by a groomer.

Loon mtn, month of feb and 3/3 3/4

Interesting post to say the least. I was at Loon in February and can vouch for the awesome bump runs on Rumrunner, Sunset, Seven Brothers and Rolling Bear. That groomer operator should get a raise! Best bump runs on intermediate terrain I've ever seen. The proof is in the pudding. Here are pics...

    Loon mtn, nh, 1/20-21

Looks like February was a better month for Loon bumps. I skied there for four days last week and had a fantastic time. Here are a bunch of pics: <BR> <BR><A HREF="http://forums.alpinezone.com/modules.php?set_albumName=albun05&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php"...

    Loon mtn, nh, 1/20-21

I feel your pain a bit, but you have to realize, this hasn't been the best season to expect a lot of bumps at Loon. That trail under the Kanc Quad (Lower Northstar) is awesome when bumped. It is the perfect pitch for an aspiring bump skier and is a huge confidence boost. Give it some time...
