Wi Fi on a ski lift?

It is true that skiing is my escape from work, my meditative moment where all I focus on is a turn at a time, a movement at a time, but I'm not sure I'm against this. Life doesn't stop when you're on the mountain and Vail's clientele base will probably benefit well from this. I've been working...

Professional Pics from Ice Axe Antarctic Cruise

That storm on the drake passage looked scary as heck. Those waves were as high as the bridge of the ship! They must've been at least 60 feet!

    Whitefish, MT: Jesus Statue

Because the constitution doesn't love religious symbols on federal. Personally I don't care, but I really would prefer a super hot woman statue on federal land. I believe that would be constitutionally ok.

    RIP Jamie Pierre

I can't imagine that he would've ignored the avy forecast if he had had proper training, or even if he really knew his stuff.

    RIP Jamie Pierre

I can't believe that Jamie Pierre had no avy training! That is incredible.

    RIP Jamie Pierre

That's the part that really gets me. What drives a person to ignore such an obvious situation? Was this just hubris?

    RIP Jamie Pierre

True enough. It's still shocking that a skier as seasoned as Jamie Pierre went up without any avy gear!!! I guess you can't ever let your guard down.

    RIP Jamie Pierre

It's amazing the number of big time skiers that have passed in the pass ten years. I guess that's a testament to the dangers. I just don't get how a skier as seasoned as Jamie Pierre could go out there without avy gear, and not even realize that the avy conditions were so perilous.

    Ski Villages and Authenticity Revisited

The author actually visited in october, which is probably the month in which most locals go on vacation themselves.

    Climategate in the Popular Media

I agree, and so should you. Stop flying to South America and Europe, quite driving to ski, and stop skiing. I think that should take a huge bite out of any carbon foot print. So, shall we start? If not, that comment is no less than hypocritical. BTW, just because one lives in the US doesn't...

    Climategate in the Popular Media

:brick: UGHHH!!! Come on... you love to ski, perhaps the most carbon intensive hobby in the world.... talk about different quality of life. This just bespeaks on something I don't even want to get into.... Bingo... I'm pretty sure we're experiencing serious global cooling over the last 15...

    Early Nor' easter

It snowed quite a bit in NYC today. May this be the only time I ever say this on this forum, but this sucks! I'm most definitely not in the mood for snow in NYC right now.

One more step: Manitoba is getting closer to reality

Ultimately this article basically shows a serious issue when it comes to Alaska. It is really far away from the rest of us and very sparsely populated. As much as it pains me to say this: skiing is a fringe sport, few do it, and many of those people aren't fanatical enough to travel that far for...

One more step: Manitoba is getting closer to reality

You don't need to live in the mountains to clearly see that the world class terrain you're trying to advertise is out of bounds. You don't need to live in the mountains to have skied and understand that 45+ degree slopes are dangerous. You don't need to live in NYC to be arrogant either. Good...

One more step: Manitoba is getting closer to reality

Hmmm: A) the terrain you speak of is outside your boundaries... Am I wrong? B) 45 degrees and powder out of bounds isn't "safe" or "safe-r". It's risky. Class 5 avys happen in maritime snow packs too, just ask most of the chugach powder guides. All it takes us one victim and your whole attitude...

One more step: Manitoba is getting closer to reality

I could see this place being a poor man's heli trip destination. There are 3 problems I foresee. 1. The demographics of it's visitors. The best terrain offered is outside of its boundaries. People who are most comfortable earning turns in the backcountry and who have the gear to do so often...
