2010-11: The Greatest Natural Snow Year of Our Lifetimes?

I think they were slightly above average, but I don't think it was statistically significant, whereas the Daks were significantly above average in snowfall. I think WF got over 240 inches. It's funny that WF was so far above average whereas Northern Vt wasn't.

I don't see that as big a deal when you take consideration that Tony is talking about places which are mainly snowfall dependent. When you think about the size of each region Tony uses it seems fair to treat the NE as such. Consider how long it takes to drive from Jackson to Kalispell. That...

    Tuckerman Ravine NH – July 2, 2011 : TGT … Don’t Panic!!!

Clearly, it was a terrible year here on the EC for snow. Normally the only skiing you hear of on the EC on July 2nd is the water variety.

For the record, their complaint was that it was too cold, and therefore the snow didn't corn to their liking. That to me only supports Tony's hypothesis. Frankly, if it was too cold up north, they could've easily remedied that situation with a 2 hour drive south, and then waited for things to...

and has 1/5 of the skiable acreage. Come on dude... stop bitching about measly 200 ft vt mole hills not getting enough snow so that backyard ski race groups don't have to worry about falling and bruising themselves. BTW, the Daks are not part of the appalachia... any geologist will tell you...

2010-11: The Greatest Natural Snow Year of Our Lifetimes?

That is patently wrong... Our season was longer than normal (cold spring, and if you don't believe me ask about every farmer in the NE) and there was far less rain, which is by far a more important stat than just simple snowfall, and as far as your snowfall numbers are concerned, the daks were...

    "Lost" Resorts you've skied

I can't really think of any, but then again I'm pretty young. Ascutney- I believe they turned their lifts off, so I guess that's one. Magic Mountain- was closed for a bit, but has since re-opened Vernon Valley-Great Gorge is now mountain creek, so the name has changed.

    Smallest hill you've ever skied....

I just came across this article on FTO :http://www.firsttracksonline.com/2011/07/10/paoli-peaks-ski-lawsuit-trees/. It's about Paoli Peaks. That place is the smallest, or at least the funniest place I've ever skied. I used to go there when I was in College. It got me wondering, what is the most...

I don't mind the NE, but I think NYC has more sun than many places inland, although it does get hotter and more humid here than places further north. I just spent a weekend in the finger lakes which has a climate very favorable for Rieslings, and the farm land there is very beautiful. The beach...

Good point. When you have school age kids the car becomes far more economical in comparison for 2 more plane tix. I don't think the lift tix or lodging is any cheaper if you do SLC and stay in the valley.

2010-11: The Greatest Natural Snow Year of Our Lifetimes?

Every other region had an unbelievable year. The EC was average in snowfall but above average in preservation and lack of rain. That makes it above average for the majority of EC skiers, because the majority of EC skiers are like me and travel from outside of "ski country". You all have to get...

Clearly Tony should torture the numbers so Patrick can be happy, perhaps that thread's title will read 2010-11 The worst snow year ever because quebec's was mediocre. Talk about myopia...

Which is accessible to a tiny percentage of the population in North America. I would say that the most easily accessible areas in North American by and large had great years. I'm not trying to dismiss Quebec as a region, but except for locals it's fairly out of the way. I would say showcase...

2010-11: The Greatest Natural Snow Year of Our Lifetimes?

Except that many of the western resorts this year it wasn't just a matter of consistent snow. It was a banner year, with frequent large storms and persistent cold deep into the season. I think when you look at North American as a whole this is a pretty fair title.

2010-11: The Greatest Natural Snow Year of Our Lifetimes?

Well, I can't disagree with you, as a local a lot of big storms followed by rain would be better. That being said the major difference for out-west is: they don't have the threat of rain. Furthermore, as the Admin pointed out, most areas out west are destination resorts, where the business model...
