great report! I need to make it back up there sometime. as far a masks... I, too was surprised (kinda, not really) at how everything was "back to normal" up there (even though non-enforced mask mandates were still in place in Kellogg and CDA)... especially considering that area got hit pretty...

Turner Mt., MT, Feb. 28, 2021

Even when I lived in NW Montana near Whitefish, people said half the challenge was just getting to that place (Turner). Looks a little better than I expected, TBH. I didn't realize it had ~2k ft vert. I have heard it can be great on a powder day, for obvious reasons.

Good to meet, and spend the day with you James. I, too ride mostly solo... so it's nice to have someone to listen to my banter! (some call it complaining). O:) I was pretty happy with my two days here at Silver. Pretty fun, varied mountain. In a perfect world, that riblet double chair would...

Mission Ridge, WA, Feb. 24, 2021

When I lived in Leavenworth for a year, I enjoyed going to Mission Ridge over Stevens Pass. As mentioned, the snow is much drier, and I think the terrain is pretty fun and varied. The year I was there, they also had a pretty good snow year, which made it all the better.. as they usually get...

nice... I thought they were gonna upgrade that Coburn lift a few years ago to a HSQ? Are you going to be in the Silver Valley this week? I'm planning on getting there tomorrow night and riding Silver Mon and Tues, Lookout Wed... Brundage yesterday was also pretty busy (10-15 min lines at...

Mt. Ashland, OR, Feb. 20, 2021

I get it about the vacation days, as I was somewhat that way also when I worked, but still generally didn't more than ~7 hrs driving by myself. The exception was a a couple 1 day 10 hr drives to SLC and back from LA, as I think that was the longest. That's always a tough one as splitting it up...

I don't know how/why so many people feel like they have to do 10-15 hr day drives. Is it because they're cheap and don't want to pay for a motel room? Or too obsessive/anxious to get somewhere? A man thing (I've never known a woman so obsessive about getting somewhere that fast, unless its for a...

    Tamarack, ID, Feb. 6, 2021

It was great being able to finally make a few turns with you, Tony after our online acquaintance all these years. I also enjoyed meeting LIz. Sorry you didn't get any sun while you're here (its been back out the last couple days) but at least the snow was fairly decent.

Brundage Mtn AND Tamarack, ID announce expansion plans

funny, I feel the opposite. Brundage has been getting alot more visitors the last few years ($), and although I haven't seen the specifics of their expansion, it 'seems' much more subdued compared to Tamarack, who's master plan comes off as inspiring to to be a mega-resort. I would be shocked in...

Idaho requires masks in liftlines, and inside... but Not while skiing. I had my first day with fogging issues today in the storm riding conditions at Brundage. Some of it was mask related, but overall it was just wet and I was warm.

Brundage Mtn AND Tamarack, ID announce expansion plans

Just last week, Brundage announced plans to expand terrain, and add overnight lodging as well. If done right, I think it will be a good idea. Brundage is seeing increased visitation from the explosion of population in ID over the last several years. https://unofficialnetworks.com/2021/01/ ...

Unimpressive Start to 20/21 Ski Season

about 2ft of snow so far at Brundage the last few days. Went up today, and it was pretty deep, but snow was getting a little heavy as temps rose today. Unfortunately, half of Idaho was there as the liftline at Bluebird was 20 min wait late all morning. Centennial lift was not running again, due...

Unimpressive Start to 20/21 Ski Season

For the McCall area resorts in ID... Only a few new inches of snow since our rain/snow/wind event of 1/12-1/13. A friend is visiting this past week, and we have hit Brundage and Tamarack 3 times. Groomers at both resorts have been very good, but starting to veer toward hard pack. Off Piste has...

And so it begins.... 20-21 snowmaking season starts

Something else to consider is that I've heard reports that only roughly half the population plans to get the vaccine.. so it will be interesting to see if that... 1. pans out. 2. if so, there are still going to be a lot of people getting the virus, which could still have an affect on how...

And so it begins.... 20-21 snowmaking season starts

I hit Brundage on Friday, and it was pretty good. Groomer coverage was better than I expected with a 2 ft base, hardly any thin spots. Plenty were going off piste, but I didn't. They are closed for a couple days to determine if they want to reopen full time or just weekends, for now. Lift...

    2020 location tactics.

Re: Brundage/Tamarack/Bogus... The recent 2 week storm cycle we had was good, especially for Nov., but that last one was too warm, as it rained up to mid-mtn for most of the event. (I got almost 1.5" of rain at my place at 4,100 ft) While the resorts did get some good base snow, it wasn't a...

    Grand Targhee

Probably my best opening day ever (anywhere) was at Targhee in 2013. Blue bird, and deep powder. I don't remember the snowfall numbers from then, but it sounds like it could be similar this year.

    2020 location tactics.

yes, the mindset should be obsolete, but I don't believe it is. It will take people a while to understand that, if ever. (not to mention the locals in these places). Also, thats why I put that in parenthesis "being safe and in the middle of nowhere"... its a false sense of security. McCall is...

    2020 location tactics.

I have lived near McCall for over a year now, and have a season pass to both Brundage and Tamarack. Both are fun areas that provide a different experience. Tamarack has more vert and steeper terrain overall, but snow quality/quantity is usually not as good as Brundage. Crowds by most people's...
