If the reschedule allows you to go to Geneva rather than Zurich, that's a plus for a short trip the way this season is developing in the Alps.

I think the Val d'Isere surface lift and tunnel were there before the 2-way chairlift. Solden has a ski tunnel between its two upper glacier areas. If you are sure that the upcoming week will be socked in above tree line and you can reschedule, I think that's a good idea.

    Project 101: USA Road Trip

This is strictly a  exercise on FTO by now. Doesn't Holimont exist right next door to Holiday Valley, not as big but bigger than most of his Midwest areas? Is that just a weather forecast reference or does he plan to be in Maine in two days? All of you upstate NY natives will be the...

    Project 101: USA Road Trip

Today Project 101 drove 470 miles and skied Alpine Valley, Ohio. It looks like he's on his way to upstate NY. Harvey? James? FYI he skied Whiteface, Gore and West in 2019, so anywhere else is fair game.

    LA Fires: Jan 2025

Liz has been doing some training hikes with a Westside group. One of those was in Baldwin Hills where I posted that pic of downtown L.A. with the snowy Mt. Baldy backdrop. This Sunday was in Pacific Palisades. The Leacock Trail ascends from Bienveneda Ave., a small enclave mostly spared from...

Powderhounds.com does a fair job of that and skiresort.info provides basic info even for the very obscure.

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

was on my radar for the Feb. road trip, but I can't imagine at elevation range 4,500 - 5,700 that it is worth visiting under current conditions: 72% open on a 1-20 inch base, temperature range 54-27F.

    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

No argument with any of this. Weather generally comes from the west. Plattekill is the first place in/near the Catskills that will get hit and should get more than places farther east. Most mountain ranges in North America work this way: Sierra, Wasatch, Tetons, etc.

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

For the easterners who enjoy their fall foliage, this is my backyard on January 13. Normally the liquid amber colors turn around Thankgiving and it drops most of the leaves by Christmas. I can't say why so late this year. November and December were unusually rainy but not cold, which is why...

Sorry, ChrisC's Japan link went to the French URL. The correct link I posted is paywalled, so hopefully ChrisC can correct that.

Busy/Quiet Weeks of the Winter Sports Season

I try to post one of those Euro school holiday charts every year in this thread. Jnelly beat me to it for 2025-26.

    Project 101: USA Road Trip

+10 Mt. Bohemia is surely one of skiing's unique experiences. These are the type of experiences I like to collect for my ski area count. But from where I live I could get to Niseko faster. It's almost criminal that Project 101 drove across UP Michigan from Jackson Creek (the former...

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

Larry Schick told me that long ago from his work in Washington State. He said all of the most destructive flood events have been November - January. There was one this recent December. All of the Pacific State snow sites that measure both snow and water show the lowest water/snow ratios in...

??? Maybe the straightforward lift accessibility means route finding is easier than other places. That's true for Mont Gele and Attelas I think. Still, routes like backside Mont Fort have to be guide mandatory for first timers. It seems strange for such a high visibility place not to...

    Northern VT: what a start

That's interesting data on Indy. Where did you get it? Does Indy require disclosure from its partner areas? I get the impression that exact Ikon use at places like Alta and Jackson Hole are closely guarded state secrets. Jackson disclosed 14% Ikon during its first year in 2018-19 but not...

    Northern VT: what a start

Lots of Indy Pass areas have slow lifts which can make them vulnerable to lines. Jay may be on Indy but it's still a high profile ski area. When I had 3 days to ski in northern Vermont in March 2003, former admin recommended Stowe, Mad River and Jay. Vail the mountain has always had an...

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

That is my impression though I haven't tracked it either. But despite what's happening now the PNW is less prone to prolonged dry spells than most ski regions and thus a rained upon alpine is more often than not resurfaced within a week or so. Three of my 6 Whistler trips were in late...

    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

I agree with ChrisC's post. The last time we had this discussion I grazed upstate NY on Google Earth. The Catskills are significant mountains by Northeast standards, topping out at 3,500 feet. There is nothing to the west of them as high as 2,000, so they will get orographic uplift...

Reference? I can't find anything. It would also be VERY unusual to make that kind of switch mid-season.
