    Oz/NZ 2025

I didn't know where that place was. I just searched it. Even just looking at the map it looks uncomfortable to me. Far to close to the imaginary line that goes round the middle of the globe. You were diving?

Oh for sure. I regularly vocal about my dislike of heat and humidity. I live in Australia but have not ever been and will not ever go to South East Asia for that very reason.

Book your trip to Sydney a few months in advance. If conditions are good drive down to ski. If conditions are bad jump on a flight to North Queensland and go to the Great Barrier Reef in the best weather conditions of the year. About as conditions proof as you can get for a holiday.

Thredbo for 4 midweek nights next week. Not school holidays. 2 people. Lunacy. I paid 20% of those lower prices when I stayed on snow at Tignes last March. It could be argued that Tignes is a better ski hill than Thredbo too.

    Oz/NZ 2025

This from a local of the NSW ski hills on the Aussie ski forum just now. Suggesting Spencer’s Creek is no longer a reliable indicator of snow conditions. Under- Personally as long as the prevailing wind is from the west I couldn't care less what it does on the alps. I don't ever wanna see...

My opinion only but it’s crazy spending that amount of money on accommodation - particularly when the skiing can be a very average or poor experience.

    Oz/NZ 2025

It has in the past. The other thing I don't like gambling on is getting rained on even if I'm skiing on a good base. It means that if I am going down south I am booking last minute with an established base and a forecast of clear weather. I've gone with a forecast of snow and only got that at...

    Oz/NZ 2025

If you were going to be there in the next week Oz would be a nice place to be but committing to be there in a few weeks would be unwise. We have the very real potential for big changes to the negative in a short time frame. All it takes is a couple of back to back rain events……

Midnight Oil and Other Oz Music

Iconic Australian radio station Triple J doing the Hottest 100 Australian songs of all time right now. Voted by the public. So much fun at my house happening tonight. I’ve got about thirty 18-20 year olds rocking it up.

    American Election 2024

I find it interesting that Uncle Rupert has taken on DJT somewhat. A clash of the titans. Rupert isn’t known for losing often……

    American Election 2024

I can’t get that article. I imagine if there was anything hard on Trump it would have come out in the lead up to last year’s election. All these attempts at distraction (Obama/Russia being the latest) are pretty amusing though.

    American Election 2024

Will any of this Epstein stuff stick to Teflon Don? I'm guessing not. DJT is amazing. He really draws a crowd. We get more about American politics in our news than we do Australian politics. I'm not exaggerating on that one.

A Love Letter to Dog Days in the North Country…

A couple of months of hot and humid weather would be bearable. After 5 months it gets old believe me.

Great Lakes: Freezes, Lake Effect, and Cooling

I don’t surf now and never reached a really competent level back in the day because I didn’t do it enough. Then work took over my life between the age of about 20 and 38 so I did very little leisure stuff aside from irregular offshore fishing. When I started taking time off we somehow got into...

Great Lakes: Freezes, Lake Effect, and Cooling

I often think about the gulf between average people’s ability to play a sport and the elite sportspeople. I agree surfing might be difficult but high jump is the one that blows my mind. (I am short though so that might play on my thinking). :) Getting in that cold water is very impressive in...

    Europe 2025/26

I’ll be in Japan late January and am really torn between France and Canada (Calgary) for very late March/early April as my second northern hemisphere snow trip for 2026. I really want to check out the Maurienne Valley.

Great Lakes: Freezes, Lake Effect, and Cooling

That's incredible. I thought proper waves were confined to oceans with long wind fetch. Just proves how big those lakes are. Edit. I just looked up Stony Point. I assume these conditions happen with sustained fresh north easterly winds?

Great Lakes: Freezes, Lake Effect, and Cooling

It gets proper waves that can be surfed? I didn’t know that.
