I’m the same. Long haul is no great chore. I usually get between 7 and 9 hours sleep.

Very sadly the opportunities for the kids to ski with us are now really limited due to their relatively new found work schedules. We have many great memories in the bank but I hope we can still get the stars to align in the future.

    Japan 2026

I’ve ripped this off the Aussie ski forum - “Storms" (low pressure troughs and cold fronts) are not really what determines normal heavy snowfalls, particularly in central Japan and northern Honshu. The key is high pressure over eastern Siberia (around Lake Baikal / Mongolia), with a ridge of...

We won’t go to Habuka in an endeavour to avoid the swathes of my fellow countrymen. We’ll stay in the valley somewhere around Nakano/Yudanaka. From there Nozawa Onsen, Madarao, Myoko are within striking distance. We’ll then stay on snow at Japan’s biggest and highest linked ski resort Shiga...

I am catching a train from Narita to Tokyo city (Ueno specifically) for a few tourist days in late January before going to the hills around Nagano. The car rental company Miki Car Rentals who are based in Narita are delivering me a car on the required day to my hotel for a fee of 5000yen (about...

I am auto logged in on my work pc. My phone is usually auto logged in but for some reason it's logged out. I've tried my usual suspect passwords but I can't seem to get in.

@Tony Crocker @jamesdeluxe and other management heavyweights on here. This could be your chance to get rid of the gaper Australian. For some reason my phone has logged me out of First Tracks. I can't remember my password and I can't use the 'forgot password' thing because the email I used to...

    Europe 2025/26

I believe a non stop train ride is possible. In fact I think I got one the first time I went to the Tarantaise. I wouldn't choose for stops to save a few bucks so it must have been the timing was not optimal.

    American Election 2024

Is this Epstein situation getting stickier for DJT? The media I'm seeing is suggesting it is. Do Americans really care about that stuff? MTG seems like a dead set nutter to me but it isn't a good look for Don to have a team mate going against him.

    Europe 2025/26

I've used trains when I took my kids and a friend each to Europe for skiing a few years ago. Six of us plus baggage so a car wasn't really suitable. It was fine. A pleasure even. Paris to Bourg Saint Maurice needed a couple of changes. Bus up the hill to Tignes. Bus down the hill a week later...

    Beer thread

Whilst I can appreciate different beer styles and their differences to the run of the mill lagers that most of the population drink I happily admit I can't tell the difference between a relatively cheap sparkling white wine and a very good one. I'm a little better on red wine as I have had more...

Ah. No. It is perhaps one of the worst beers that I have every tasted. That is why it is not sold in any volume whatsoever in Australia. The list below is indicative of the beer market in Oz despite it being from 2023. https://pubtic.com.au/australias-top-selling-beers-of-2023/ The Great...

To you. To a large portion of the population. If the only two options I had were Coors and Budwiser I would not drink beer. There is a reason why thousands of craft breweries sell millions of cans of beer that are not the 'cold and wet' type like the two you mentioned. The reason is a small...

    Europe 2025/26

Which is easy to do. You’ll get a modest self contained apartment on snow in a French resort for under 150USD per night at that time of year. Same goes for Italy. I’m going to challenge myself to average 150aud (about 100usd) per night when I go in March next year. I spend the savings on group...

Went to Rottnest Island yesterday. Went for a bike ride. It’s very scenic and the beaches and water are beautiful. They’ve also got these little fellows. Too cute.
