How Many Days to Spend at a Ski Area

Does it include Schlasman's, where you need to have a transceiver? Bridger is a VERY limited area at the advanced intermediate level IMHO. The lower mountain is quite flat and the upper part is technical DFU as well as most of it requiring a hike. Big Sky's terrain distribution is somewhat...

    South America 2026

Thread drift regarding number of days to spend at areas not in South America is moved here.

How Many Days to Spend at a Ski Area

makes bullet points 3-5 above irrelevant to me. Point #1 is actually improved for me because full Ikon is a combined ticket with no surcharge. Thus about half my days in the Ikon era (plus those when Mountain Collective was combined) include some skiing at both areas. As for point #2, my top...

    Europe 26/27

There are lots of Euro reports in this forum. In terms of an overall overview, I this thread should get you started. That's a long enough trip that you can follow the methodology that James, ChrisC and I use. In 20 days you will going to multiple destinations. This calls for renting a car...

    South America 2026

Our 2007 trip was 2 days Portillo, 2 days Arpa, 3 days Valle Nevado, 3 days non-skiing. Once there is adequate snow on the ground, 3-4 days at the iconic lodge would be attractive. I would not reserve anything else in advance. Take your car rental do whatever looks most interesting at the time.

How Many Days to Spend at a Ski Area

I'll first comment that 5 days for ChrisC is about 150K vertical. Accepting that premise I don't see how you can say AltaBird and Jackson don't belong in whatever the top group is, in Jackson's case with caveat that the Lower Faces have acceptable conditions. And I would remove Park City...

    World Cup 2026

I can't argue with either of those. But still, L.A. hosted the finals the last time, and we have rather strong Latin American influence here too.

    World Cup 2026

I've read quite a few comments that the Meadowlands are somewhat of a dump vs. ATT Dallas or SoFi Inglewood. And do we want the final played in a steambath when better options were available? Recall that most of the outdoor East Coast games were played at 5PM or later local time (including...

    World Cup 2026

Nice call by FIFA to have the World Cup final outdoors in New Jersey this upcoming Sunday. :smileyvault-stirthepot: We know that TV $$$$$ wag the dog in these situations, and that's a big strike against the West Coast. But 2PM in Dallas vs. 3PM in NYC seems not a big deal to me. And...

How Many Days to Spend at a Ski Area

This is a comment I've heard about Telluride. :smileyvault-stirthepot: Some truth unless you can handle the Palmyra hike or brave the Bear Creek sidecountry.

    South America 2026

Perhaps the past 15 years have made skiers skittish about committing to a whole week. I'm pleased to see the more flexible options. Liz would probably be interested. Her one day at Portillo in July 2010 was in a windy whiteout with only one lift operating.

That map was exactly what we experienced in 2007. Corn was excellent but Adam thought very small scale vs. Las Lenas. Those X-ed out chutes skier's right from Roca Jack contributed to that impression. With the lower latitude I'd say September in Portillo/Valle Nevado = April in Colorado...

Aspen One/SkiCo Updates. (Alterra IPO: Maybe Never)

Excellent points above by skieric on food and lessons. Katz should make a trip to the Alps to see the differences, but I doubt he's willing to give up the monopoly profits of either in the American model.

    Yellowstone Club, Mar. 6, 2026

Most of the terrain is still public, and with Utah's explosive population growth Powder Mt.'s under the radar status was not going to last. It's only a question of how it would be managed. Reed Hastings has chosen to manage it by price to preserve the historical low skier density. Solitude is...

    Yellowstone Club, Mar. 6, 2026

On the Big Sky map I know about and have skied at least some of the ones at left in the former Spanish Peaks. The ones at lower right I did not know existed! As for the Yellowstone Club map, it makes sense that most of the homes are built on the mellow south facing side of Andesite. There...

    Colorado 536 Month Ski Streak

This season may be the ultimate challenge for Colorado based ski streakers.

Aspen One/SkiCo Updates. (Alterra IPO: Maybe Never)

Yes, along with nearly all the regular posters here. :icon-lol: I'm not going to argue we are a representative group here, but those 5 items are not likely high priorities for the most frequent and avid skiers. Since the Epic Pass is cheaper than Ikon, and Ikon lets its partners tinker with...

    South America 2026

Holidays are mainly in second half of July. That was my scenario in 2007, above average snowfall but none in the 3 weeks before I arrived. Portillo had good corn by time of day and exposure. Valle Nevado/La Parva/El Colorado off piste was not so good. Some places get wind hammered. Sun is...

    South America 2026

The map in the OpenSnow link above shows the storm getting past La Serena (latitude 29, 5 inches average annual rain, in path of July 2019 total eclipse) but not as far north as Antofagasta.

    Patrick's Streak, Ski Travel Priorities

More gaslighting. It was a one+ month trip with his wife and Patrick was going to be in the Alps on the back end. She wanted to be in Denmark and the Low Countries on the front end so that's where October's skiing had to be. He did in many of the early years of the streak. Overall Patrick...
