Mt. Baldy, CA, Feb. 6-7, 2019

egieszl, i agree with on every account. good summary. i've ridden every one of those chairs many, many times. small, fun little place. i was amused that they had taken some of those lifts off the trail map. they offered some fun, yet varied (short) terrain. for years the lack of avail...

Mt. Baldy, CA, Feb. 6-7, 2019

Wow.egieszl, you do know Snow Valley. I concur with you......there are some south facing runs at the midway point that can be decent if there is sufficient snow. If not, you have manzanita shrub coming through........ That is amazing that Chair 9 isn't operable. Are you serious GEESH...

Mt. Baldy, CA, Feb. 6-7, 2019

I agree with you but I will say at $25 for a lift ticket AND new high speed quad AND slide peak IS open AND there's less driving involved, it's a great option for some midweek turns. Back in the day when nearly everyone skied, slide peak would get some nice big volkswagon bus sized moguls...

Mt. Baldy, CA, Feb. 6-7, 2019

Great TR Tony, thank you. It was like being there. Great shots! Really enjoyed the photos especially the Notch covered in rime/snow. Classic baldy. Such a great mountain -- so many fun spots. I was quite curious to hear what the crowds would be like these days - the last time I skied...

    Powder Mtn 2/5/19

thanks Marc yeah i saw that....... this kid was mentioning he was there in Ogden for "the Summit" -- apparently sounds like a hangout for rich kids. it was in SLC as well as Eden? must be nice ;)

    Powder Mtn 2/5/19

Arrived to PowMow at 935.......after debating where to go. Snow was quite good - not all time blower, but definitely lots of face shots to be found on every single run. High density followed by low density in the morning. Snow showers turned to beautiful snowy conditions in the upper...

    Jackson Hole 1/17-18

i agree about your observations there are too many locals who are "on it" .... i guess my only question is, what marketing department doesn't pimp their resort out? the internet has changed the face of ski reporting. gone are the days of using a landline to get the ski report updated at 530...

Dog Days of Winter - Movie - Recommended

If you want to watch a really cool flick, look for "Dog Days of Winter" on Amazon Prime (Prime Video). Obviously "Dog" refers to the "Hot Dogs" who pioneered freestyle skiing. Requires a subscription to Amazon Prime. It's the history of freestyle skiing -- with great reels from the 60's...

    Big Bear, Jan. 3, 2019

thanks for the TR, Tony. Ah Geronimo........do you remember the season when they built that lift? I remember skiing it for the first season ...maybe like 1990 or so (Goldmine)? I remember feeling so accomplished skiing down it -- as it was probably one of the steepest runs in SoCal...

Powder Mt., Utah, March 18, 2018

one of the best kept secrets and hidden gems in the country is about to change, not for the better IMO powmow doesn't offer the thrill of the cirque but the no "powder pressure" that TC highlights makes up for it. love the new terrain as of last year but fearful of paradise/eden lost....

    Your thoughts on Telluride?

Well I'll be damned. First time I'm going to call b.s. on something by Tony .... but to his defense, he hasn't been there since the Revelation lift was built. I saw very hefty lift lines on Revelation last year when I was there. Reminded me of Mineral Basin on a weekend bluebird powder...

    Ski Boots - Los Angeles

Wondering if Tony and others could chime in on the best option for new boots in LA/OC? I'm going on 10 seasons on these: https://www.rei.com/product/758471/tecn ... boots-mens and I always felt like i never got these dialed in -- always felt cramped/half a size too small. Surefoot ...

    Telluride March 1-2 2017

A quick TR. I had always wanted to visit Telluride. It's a bit of a haul from Los Angeles -- about 14 hours. The haul from LA to Cortez is 12 hrs, overnight stay, followed by a 1.5 hr drive to Telluride. It had snowed the last few days (M/T) and I arrived on Wednesday morning and made a...

    Aspen Highlands/ Snowmass 1-12/13

Been a long time coming for me to ski Aspen. When you're new to a place you don't know where to get lunch let alone where to park let alone how not to cliff out. The skiing over the past few days has been quite pleasant -- creamy lines, very soft, light snow, sun. I hiked the Bowl at...

    Mammoth, Jan. 5, 2017

with facebook constantly stroking the 38 MM people in California to come to mammoth, it's a place I avoid like the plague. can't imagine what a zoo it'll be this weekend let alone Tahoe...... thanks for the TR
