    rust

In New England, edges are the most important part of the ski. I take no chances and always bag my skis before they go rooftop. When I get them home, I wipe them dry. Me+My Skis well tuned = a great day. Me + My skis with bad edges = bad day in New England... 8)

Advice so bad, it's hard to believe

This outfit is a classic bottom-fisher. They are not interested in helping you, they are only interested in moving gear to people who care only about price and don't know/care about the details called skiing. The frontpiece is just marketing poohie to suggest to the newbie that they know what...

    Slovakia Ski Team?

I was skiing at Burke Mountain, Vermont yesterday 3/27. About 4 chairs ahead of me was a fellow with a jacket emblazoned with "Slovakia Ski Team" on the back. He was skiing alone and gone by the time I got off the lift on top. I never saw him the remainder of the day. No one I asked knew...

If I get hit 1 more time....

It would be interesting to get a statistics-wonk to crunch some numbers here. 1. What is the accident rate by day of week? Time of Day? Holiday/not? 2. Accident rate by type of trail. 3. Accident rate by nr. of tickets sold. 4. Accident rate by weather and snow surface conditions. 5...

    Head i.XRC 1100 SW?

Yes, that's the flex adjuster electronics. I suppose there's a battery that needs changing or charging. Something else to forget. It reminds me of Mercedes-Benz. Lots of great technolgy, awesome when it works. Only problem is that failure rates of MB is extraordinarily high as result -...

    Head i.XRC 1100 SW?

I demo'd a pair Friday. I really liked them in the hardpack. Good edging, fairly stable at speed. I was at a 1000' vertical mt., so I couldn't get the GS speeds up (lots of posted speed limits, shall we say) to fully evaluate how stable they would be at high speed, but theny seemed firm...

Liftline times in the Berkshires over Pres Day?

Considering a day trip to one of the "smaller" areas in MA - Butternut, Bosquet, etc. What is the longest liftlines I can expect on President's Day weekend/week? Thank you!

    Mcintyre, NH

Now here is one from left field: Anyone have any experience at McIntyre Ski Area in NH? http://www.mcintyreskiarea.com It's a small feeder area near Manchester. I'm looking to take my 8-year old to a boarding lesson this next week and am looking to avoid the Mass. school vacation crowds...

    Competing site

Anyone have any experience paying $22 to use http://www.nobullski-vermont.com/ ? Back when it was free it struck me as pretty candid and fairly even-handed across all resorts. Am wondering if it has added any value that FTO and other freebie boards offer.

    Tool for Edge Sharpening

Thanks Chromer. Do I need to buy the stone or file separately? Are they custom-sized for this jig or will any one fit?

    Need well-vented helmet...

So I picked up the Giro Fuse and been pretty happy with it. I still overheat (though not as much) on those bluebird days over 25F), (with air conditioning on full) so I suppose I'm still an thermal anomaly. Best price was at Ken Jones in Nashua NH. Thanks for all the advice.

    Suggestions on intermediate skis

I think you meant to say you demo'd the Superspeeds and the 6-Star. I have demo'd the superspeeds and 5-stars. As a ski, I just love the superspeed, it's like a magnet on ice. The 5-star has a lot more flex and is much less stable (relatively speaking) at speed than the superspeed. The...

    Tool for Edge Sharpening

I need a quick tool or jig which I can run down the edges to keep them sharp in between trips to the shop for a full tune (grind/wax/etc.) I don't want to even consider free-filing with a hand file. Right now, I'm looking at the Reliable Racing page: http://www.reliableracing.com/winterspo...

    Loon, NH Feb 9, 2005

Much to my suprise and delight, Tues PM Rain seemed to have only a slight effect on conditions. Turned out the rain was light - talked to skiers who skied during the rain on Tues who confirmed it. Most stuff was loose granular. Temps gradually declined during the day, causing minor firming up...

Pats Peak NH Sunday Feb 6 2005

Great day out with the family - slow speed day. Superbowl day diminished the crowds, though the pkg lot also looked full. Like rivercoil reported @ Cannon, people were bailing by 2-3pm. Same behaviour I see every year on SBS. Good day to catch some rays. Trails were groomed well. Happy to...

    Always an opposite POV

Well, not every reader is interested in glades or bump runs. In fact, these forums don't have to be bastions for the elite crowd. No reason we can't take a balanced approach, since the vast majority of skiers are intermediates anyways.

Jay Peak VT, Friday Feb 4th

Another Bluebird day. Grooming crew did a marvelous job. Great day for cruising. Lots of Canadian kids, much to my suprise - college I suppose. Trails all had excellent (for this year), hardpack coverage. Grooming team does an awesome job this year, but much of the loose stuff gets scraped...
