How Many Days to Spend at a Ski Area

Fair points. I have been to the area maybe half a dozen times. I fly in and out of SLC. I generally have a couple/few days at Altabird (staying down in the valley) and then drive to GT and/or Jackson and/or Big Sky and/or Sun Valley then come back for a couple more days at Altabird. I have...

How Many Days to Spend at a Ski Area

I don’t know those old days. I went there first in March 2014. The experience I had there in January 2025 in relatively low tide conditions was still pretty flipping good.

How Many Days to Spend at a Ski Area

I'd want to hit a snowy period to have to be at Park City for 5 days. I'm probably put off by only seeing it in very mediocre conditions though. If there was a ski area anywhere that I had to stay in for a month on the trot I would nominate Alta/Snowbird. Fresh snow equals happy. No fresh snow...

    Europe 26/27

Arriving in Milan is a good general compromise but it's a bit harder to get winter tyres which might be worth thinking about at that time of year. For a couple of reasons we gravitate to the French end of the Alps. In my experience there is no need to pre-book accommodation at that time of year...

    South America 2026

That South America forecast looks interesting. If half of that snow falls I’ll be more than tempted. What dates do I want to avoid? I assume the base will still be ok in early September even if no more snow falls?

Thanks. Or not. Another trip to do. My bucket has time limitations.

    Patrick's Streak, Ski Travel Priorities

Sorry for going wildly off topic but INXS is not INXS without Michael Hutchence. It's possible to ski on actual snow on Mt Rainier in September?

Sounds great to me. How far does that extend inland? To the foothills of the Sierra?

    U.S. Presidency #47

The bar keeps getting set lower. Why don’t his handlers stop this kind of classless vulgarity? “RESTRAINING ORDER NEEDED”. That’s the innuendo-laced diplomatic message the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump, delivered by AI-distorted image to the 68th Prime Minister of Italy...

    U.S. Presidency #47

Amusing but I don't know why some Australians are intent on yobbo behaviour in public. It's embarrassing frankly.

Nice analogy and one that I’ll use in the future. Our summer storm forecasts come under this category too.

    South America 2026

Interesting that Liz has not skied down here. I’ll make an effort to cross ski tracks with you somewhere that season all things being equal.

    Australia and New Zealand 2026

https://www.mthutt.co.nz/weather-report Mt Hutt and some of the other Canterbury ski areas now have decent bases. Unlike the club fields nearby Mt Hutt also has snowmaking. This season is now set up for them.

Rigged. [Needs elaboration, TC] DJT call to Gianni Infante: "I just want to find, uh, 4 goals." Sorry. :)

    Australia and New Zealand 2026

I’ve skied at Mt Hutt a few times. I’d prefer to ski somewhere else that I’ve not skied before but if it has to be there it will be. There is also the bonus of being able to hook up with a heli day out of Methven. I’m watching the snowfall and will definitely be skiing at some point in August or...

    Heat Domes

I find the vehicle thermometer readings are high. Sometimes by 3 degrees C. I blame the metal composition of the car.
