    Mammoth 5/5-6

Finally, some real spring conditions. The snow down at the Mill wasn't really freezing at night, so with the salting and perfect grooming, Stump Alley was perfect all morning. Also, with the decent winds, the bottom runs stayed fine the entire day. The snow never really got sticky. On both...

    Mammoth 4/30-5/1

It was very cold Friday night and still below average on Saturday, so despite the sunny weather, everything remained bulletproof on Saturday until about 11. Rock solid corduroy combined with the metal on metal connection of Dynafit bindings meant my legs went numb for an hour due to the...

I've never skied anywhere after mid-May, but the Eastern Sierra almost certainly has bigger and better spring touring than the Wasatch. I think I'd personally get tired of skiing the same limited runs late-season, so backcountry takes on a larger importance. The Eastern Sierra and Tioga (when it...

If you're going up next week, I'd love to pay for your gas! Mammoth Mountaineering is by far the best shop in Mammoth. If they can handle what you need, I'd always suggest going there. And if they can't handle it, they'll tell you the best place to go and give you a specific person to contact =D>

Looks like fun. I was hoping to go up Wednesday night for the weekend but couldn't find a ride. Now that I missed this last little bit of powder, I really only want to focus on big BC lines for my final two weekends of the season. Did Mammoth Mountaineering have the Dynafit Titan in your size...

Skiing ability is always going to be most important, but there's no doubt that pros can ski the crazy terrain much faster and more aggressively today with wide skis. Stomping cliffs is also extraordinarily easier with powder skis, which is one of the reasons I'm always amazed to see old Seth...

Spring Skiing at Snowbasin with Ramp Sports

But since FTO is in the ski industry, and the writer clearly has some PR skills...

Isn't it a little overly negative to think that this will be your biggest season for the next 20 years?

Or maybe your tips would have planed on the surface of the snow, making them easier to control. Also, spectacular crashes are the only way to crash. If you crash while going slowly, you look like a gaper. If you tomahawk while charging down a crazy line, you're bad-ass.

    Mammoth, CA - 2.26.11 (PoV)

Saturday was really excellent, but crowded as well. I got to the mountain a bit late as well, so instead of waiting in line for 22, we went to Chair 10 and hikes up the back. I didn't quite beat the first Chair 22 people to the top of Lincoln, so I stopped at Avy 3 and still got fresh tracks...

    Touring Bindings Necessary for France

I've mentioned in a few thread here that I'll be living in Grenoble next spring. The skis I am planning to bring are 186 Lhasa Pows and a yet-to-be-purchased 90-100mm everyday ski. The Lhasas currently are mounted with Rossi FKS, as I don't do any touring at the moment. June has some nice...

Mammoth 2/25/11: The day 60K of powder happened

On any sort of a normal storm day, Chairs 1 and 2 get tracked within about 2 hours. I had a very similar day earlier this season where this was the case. However, for whatever reason, nobody was over at 1 and 2. I think all of the better skiers went to Canyon hoping 22 would open. I heard...

Mammoth 2/25/11: The day 60K of powder happened

Chair 3 definitely isn't 1000 vertical feet. I think the map I used is based on GPS stuff from Google Earth, so it should be pretty accurate.

Mammoth 2/25/11: The day 60K of powder happened

I arrive in Mammoth about 2:00am, got 5 hours of sleep, and then got first chair at Broadway. I managed to do 12 Broadway laps in just the first hour. They were all Gravy or Baby Gravy to the Potato rock. I think I finally got the correct balance in the air for the Praxis, and now they’re pretty...

    Drive me to Mammoth

Do it and $75 in gas money is headed your way! Leaving tomorrow or Friday, coming back Sunday. I'm in Claremont, so people who take the 15 generally can pick me up without much of a hassle.

    Mammoth 2/17-20

I also wish I would have gone to June on Saturday. Mammoth was perhaps the slightly better call than June on Friday, but we didn't expect so much to open at Mammoth and June was still unbelievable, so I'm not going to stress over it. By the way, does anyone want to drive me to Mammoth this...

    Mammoth 2/17-20

Epic conditions every day. Thursday featured no crowds and first tracks on Gravy, The Bear, and Chairs 5 and 3. The powder was really nice and light, but a few windblown spots remained since it was so windy on Wednesday. On Friday, I went to June and found zero crowds and extremely deep powder...

My skis wont fit in the car I drove up in if the guy also has his snowboard. Plus, public transportation costs $14.
