FIFY There are 9 or 10 lifts, all Hall. Only two different kinds (haul rope diameter) so they got a lot of interchangeability. Honestly I've never seen a fixed grip like Lift 6. They run it REALLY fast. The liftie cranked it up to full speed to get the snow off it, when I showed up! And then...

Titus, NY: 02/11/26 I drove to Titus on Wednesday and it paid off. Snowed the day before, the night before and all day. Twelve runs off lifts 5 and 6, including several completely untracked. Route 30, the road to Titus First chair on Lift 6 Sweet Sugar Lou After lunch I earned a lap on...

    Northeastern U.S. Weather & Conditions

Is that part of the definition? Says who? Call it what you will, I don't know how you can look at that image and think the lakes are not a factor. Winds out of the northwest and snow falling on the leeward side of the lakes. Almost nothing over VT/NH/ME. Maybe we are splitting hairs. I use...

And some other places that get no lake effect. Also you are getting an echo off Erie even though it is 96% frozen.

I was thinking analogous for temperature. We haven't had that much snow. Not much in the way of synoptic. At least in NY, it's largely been lake effect.

This year is wild. I wonder how far back you have to go to find an analogous year for the continental US.

Agree. Not a coincidence on the cold snap. Still cold today, but warm enough to hok our woods.

This should be good! Ask him how he values ski days outside of a pow-centric model! 🤠

Vanderwhacker Wild Forest: 2/02/26 Fun BC ski with two trailheads, two miles from my house. Using a car shuttle we turned 980 feet of climbing into 2800 of downhill. Gore is finishing up their terrain, blowing snow on Pete Gay. Rabbit Pond Ski Day 61.

I got onto a group text, where people propose bc ski routes. You just say if you are in or out, then someone sets the meeting spot. It's pretty cool. Skiing in my neighborhood, today. A week after the last snowfall. Across the street from my house Ski Day 60.

    Project 101: USA Road Trip

To this I would add: 4) NY's family-owned ski areas are generally managed with first hand information, and owners are generally visible, available and approachable. Example: Last Saturday was to be the first opening of the Snow Pocket at Snow Ridge, since a significant and sustained lake...

    Project 101: USA Road Trip

Do you have any direct evidence that he is not having the time of his life? For the record (leaving Bohemia out of it for now) I'll go anywhere in NY or VT. Farthest from me is Peek'n Peak. Farthest from me in VT is Burke. Tony I give you credit for being able to see this, when this is so...

    Project 101: USA Road Trip

Disclaimer: I have not read this thread, @jamesdeluxe just gave me the 2 minute summary. We all do crazy stuff because it's what we want to do. Is anyone saying this guys ski strategy is crazier than mine, or Patrick's?

Gore Mountain, NY: 1/26/26 I skied alone today so the pics aren't very exciting. But the snow was awesome. I've never seen snow this fluffy in the east, in the 35 years I've been skiing. I skied at least 2000 feet of untracked in the first few runs, half of it in one run on Showcase...

OpenSnow Data: Inflated Forecasts and Incorrect Actuals (24 Hour & History)

As predicted, this was not a lake event: Open Snow is expensive, and totals are way exaggerated, but it's extremely useful. I want to know where it's going to snow the most, and when. If they say 36" and I only find 18, whatever. You know that going in, so it really doesn't matter.
